We’ve seen CryEngine 3 in action, and it’s absolutely stunning, regardless what platform it’s used on. Developer Crytek had promoted the technology for a while now, and it’s been available to license to other developers. But at what price? Anyone who applies for a CryEngine 3 has to sign a non-disclosure agreement, so it makes it hard for developers to talk about how much it costs. But DigitalBattle has received a quote from a software company working with the new engine on an unspecified commercial project, and the licensing fee for the CryEngine 3 reportedly costs $1.2 million.
Source Unreal Engine 3 "Just costs" 515.000 dollar A Techdemo for the ones who haven't seen the engine [hd]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WivS5CJM9iQ[/hd]
Well I've got a $20 in my pocket so that's a start I guess.
Wishful thinking by crytek by the looks of it. I doubt anyone would pay that much for their engine when they can get other engines for far less.
At least you can earn up to $50,000 before having to pay Epic anything for using the Unreal Engine.
How did a budget game such as Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2 afford to license this engine anyway?
Dayum! There goes my dreams of making a camera/photography/filmography simulator in Cryengine!
How did a budget game such as Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2 afford to license this engine anyway?
God knows, I mean I don't know why they're making another considering the last one was an absolute flop.
Oh, so that's why its use is not too widespread.
It looks like a great engine, and the level/movie editors look pretty decent as well, but I wouldn't pay that much for an engine like it.
How did a budget game such as Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2 afford to license this engine anyway?
Probably snapped it up before the price increased.
1.2 millions? I think people rather use unreal.
Uhm yeah no.. I think people rather use unreal then.
I actually wonder how much Unreal Engine 4 will cost..
The fuck? Since when? I was on a game team and we were considering making an indie game with Cryengine, and when we were looking at the licensing fees it said that it was just 20% of the game's profits. This sounds hella fishy.
The day they make an MMO with the visuals of that video is the day I may have to admit I have an addiction to video games.
Dayum! We hope that your work will lead to a product you can commercialise. If this is the case, before you can sell your work or your game, you must seek a development license for CryENGINE 3. We’ll offer a royalty-only license model for Independent Developers, where Crytek require only 20% of the developer’s revenues from the commercial launch of their game.
And src: http://mycryengine.com/index.php?conid=43 So, I'd really like to see the actual numbers.
It's such a shame, I'd really love to see more games with this beautiful engine but if it's supposed to be competing with UDK, it's really now going to win. With that price i sure hope they give you the full source, you can do that with UDK.
It won't be as good as they say it will be, it's not worth making a game on a 1.2 million dollar engine anyway.
Cryengine3 =/= Free cry3 sdk Just like unreal engine =/= udk One is a full engine with source code and everything and the second one is just an sdk with limited access.
Is there a reason the game isn't called War Cry?
Holy shit the AI navigation meshes look 100x easier to make in this game compared to the engines that Bethesda used. Makes me want to get back into game development...
lol fuyck THAT
Crytek only charges in percentages of sales income, but they will give you an estimate if you present them with projected sales. Whatever this DigitalBattle is working on must have a potentially high income when it's released.
Is there a reason the game isn't called War Cry?
GFace is going to support a lot of other games and their mark is FACE, so they start with WarFace

The engine is absolutely beautiful but 1.2mil is really pushing it. What a shame. I was hoping to see it in action but from the looks of it many devs will shy away and go for something cheaper.
I have a feeling this, like Unreal and Source, will be one of those engines that just keeps getting updated year after year with no end for it in sight, because the tech is so adaptable.

I feel like most major publishers and developers would rather put that 1.2 million towards several more million to make their own engine that they can use freely and then sell to others rather than have the commercial license for CryEngine 3. Jesus that's a lot of money for an engine license. You'd think they'd be trying to compete with Unreal. This is the auto industry. No one's going to pay for a "luxury" game engine.

I mean, it really sounds like a huge investment, but at the end of the day, with games costing 40 million dollars upwards, that's nothing
