http://kotaku.com/5409642/valve-bans-gray+market-modern-warfare-2-keys
Some who bought CD keys for Modern Warfare 2 - no physicial media in other words - from import resellers have seen their access to the game vanish, as Activision has apparently asked Valve to ban such keys. A poster in Valve's official forums complained that a key he bought through G2Play.net no longer lets him open and play the game. A Valve representative, BurtonJ, called such sales "illegitimate" and confirmed the ban. He recommends buying a full version of the game - maybe through Steam? Hint hint. VE3D, which spotted the thread, points out that calling the key sales "illegitimate" is not entirely true. The keys are typically sold legally in Asia and other territories and while game makers try to ban it, their ability to do so is not absolute. Of course, the interest is clear: The keys being sold cost less than the full game, and both publisher and digital distributor stateside want to protect their bottom lines. Valve's only advice to gray-market key buyers is ask for a refund and get a "legitimate" copy of the game.
TL;DR: If you don't buy a physical copy or a copy from steam, you don't get to play. Thank Activision for this
Kotick is being a fucking ass and he wonders why people pirate his games
Wasn't this announced a few days ago?
You know, with all the keys and consoles being banned and countries banning this game, I'm surprised many people have actually managed to play it.
the market for banned consoles and keys is a fucking cash cow at the moment, though
What dicks.
Wow, Kotick is the biggest Videogame asshole I have ever heard of. Activision is going to get more and more intense hate each day.

Least it's not IW's fault It's Activision's because I know some people won't read.
Holy shit, my last name is Gray, this thread title scared the shit out of me.
Wow way to screw over people
Now Kotick is probably going to keep the price $60 until like next year
activision is following EA's steps. what next? spore-like weekly Key check? this is bullshit.
lets boycott valve
lets boycott valve
Did uberslug read the thread? vote box for yes vote funny for no
lets boycott valve
Fight the power, man. Let's not let them pour salt into our woun...wait, shit, bad example. Sorry, Slugger.
activision is following EA's steps. what next? spore-like weekly Key check? this is bullshit.
No, Activision is the next idea for Activision. It looks like Borderlands, Plays like Borderlands, Feels like Borderlands, but instead of 4 boring characters you get to play as me!
I don't think anyone here (including myself) knows the exact details of the financing that goes into creating a game, marketing the game, producing the game, then distributing the game. My guess is that its not dirt cheap, particularly the marketing strategy.
I was surprised that valve is letting all this shit go down it's kinda fucked up. I mean yeah it's good to rake in cash by being part of mw2 but it's so terrible for the reputation given the fact that they're basically letting everything happen
Wow, Kotick is the biggest Videogame asshole I have ever heard of. Activision is going to get more and more intense hate each day.
Yet everybody bought MW2 still.
Yet everybody bought MW2 still.
That's because people don't know what boycott actually means. It doesn't mean you go out to the store to buy every game they made, it means you don't. Henceforth why I haven't bought MW2 and also spewed Modern Warfare 2 Propaganda, I'm boycotting it.
I think some of them bought it just to complain and whine about everything it while playing it, although they purchased which is nice on Activisions' end.

I'd still recommend people go through these members lists for lols. At least 20-25% of the people are playing MW2 (or at least bought it).
Seems you don't know what boycotting means either.
erm..
A boycott is a form of consumer activism involving the act of voluntarily abstaining from using, buying, or dealing with a person, organization, or country as an expression of protest

To abstain from or act together in abstaining from using, buying, or dealing with as an expression of protest or disfavor or as a means of coercion
internet is your friend.
Seems you don't know what boycotting means either.
Good edit of my post. Also, what above post said "Boycotting is not buying something as an expression of protest" and boycotters are buying it even though they're boycotting, which defeats the purpose.
Also, what above post said "Boycotting is not buying something as an expression of protest" and boycotters are buying it even though they're boycotting, which defeats the purpose.
That's the joke, that's why it's funny. People just join the groups because they are angry at activision/infinity ward. (whoever tarded out MW2) So they say "im join a boyycot groupe" even though they are going to be the first person at EB when the game comes out, simply because they are spineless pussies.

Stop trying to hide it.
