And everyone can move back and forth around the interactive panorama and zoom in – with special embedded tools- to your hearts delight in exquisite detail at the ‘Rocknest’ site where the rover spent her first extended science stay in late 2012.
Read more: http://www.universetoday.com/103036/spectacular-billion-pixel-panorama-from-nasas-curiosity-mars-rover/#ixzz2WmFLdgGJ Smaller 7MB JPEG version: http://photojournal.jpl.nasa.gov/jpeg/PIA16919.jpg Big one: http://mars.nasa.gov/multimedia/interactives/billionpixel/index.cfm?image=PIA16918&view=pano
in all its colorful glory.
Its very brown.
Mars seems like a pretty nice place. You know... ignoring the whole no oxygen thing.
Mars seems like a pretty nice place. You know... ignoring the whole no oxygen thing.
As far as most other planets go, it's a very welcoming place.
Mars seems like a pretty nice place.
Looks like a barren desert to me.
Mars seems like a pretty nice place. You know... ignoring the whole no oxygen thing.
It looks like the crappiest desert on earth but crappier It's okay though because it's another planet so it's awesome
I just want to run around on all the sand or whatever it is that nobody ever has before
One day that soil may be providing for life we brought over, when some of us leave Earth for the long term. There's just the whole changing the atmosphere hurdle we have to jump.
More colourful than the latest CoD anyway
Now to look for Martians!
Now to look for Martians!
Look at snapshots, 5th from the left. aliens confirmed Its a nice picture, really. Even though its just a lot of rocks, thats pretty fucking special
Look at snapshots, 5th from the left. aliens confirmed Its a nice picture, really. Even though its just a lot of rocks, thats pretty fucking special
I think the sixth picture, the rectangle carved into a rock, is more likely to cause people to cry "Aliens!"
I think the sixth picture, the rectangle carved into a rock, is more likely to cause people to cry "Aliens!"
so we got something carved into a rock and what appears to be a flying creature definately aliens, there is no denying it
WTF is this?
Ssssh, it's one of the markings to indicated where the stage/set fits together, but dont tell anyone.
WTF is this?
probably the rover poking the soil looking for things
speedholes
it is so fucking cool to be able to see such a detailed picture of the surface of another planet the fact that we have the technology to do this is astounding, and i feel overwhelmed thinking about everything else that could be out there curiosity is a really fitting name for the rover, i guess :v: i wonder if i'll be alive when man sets foot on mars for the first time
WTF is this?
The Rover was probably zapping the dirt with it's scientific instruments to get an analysis.
wow, it's like a really big, shitty beach with no oxygen
The Rover was probably zapping the dirt with it's scientific instruments to get an analysis.
According to the NASA site it zapped the ground with its super duper futuristic phaser laser
Mars seems like a pretty nice place. You know... ignoring the whole no oxygen thing.
Mars is the only other planet that is not either made of gas or trying to kill with heat as long you have oxygen, so it seems okay. Let's start terraforming it today!

Breaking news: First picture big enough to be used as wallpaper on new iMac without stretching found!
Its very brown.
Probably rendered in the unreal engine
speedholes
because mars is a vehicle?
Its strange looking at the picture, it seems so familiar yet its on another planet.
WTF is this?
Spaceworms Like the one from star wars Just really far away
I about shat myself when I saw the carved rectangle in the rock. All those rocks in the horizon mistaken for bigfoot or faces could be anything, but a finely-carved rectangular shape in a nearby standing rock? That shit is amazing. Every scientist on Earth can swear up and down that it's wind erosion or something similar, but I'm convinced that the rectangle is artificial. I can't wait for the day when an actual person gets to tread that sandy, rocky ground and inspect these things for all of humanity. [SUB]P.S.: Is it me, or does the Mars tab icon in Chrome for the interactive view page on the site look like Tallon IV from Metroid Prime?[/SUB] Edit: There's apparently two "birds", one a distant speck in the sky (panorama), and another made of rock (cylindrical). The one made of rock is seriously creeping me the hell out, it looks mummified.
