Wow, he looks so old compared to when I first heard/saw him a few years ago.
I like the idea of the Out campaign, I think it represents what the average non-religious person wants; to be accepted just as we accept others alongside their beliefs. Militant atheism only serves to piss off the religious extremists and make them entrench their beliefs that anyone who isnt part of their religion should be cast out more.
I like Dawkins. Why exactly do people call him extreme?
I like Dawkins. Why exactly do people call him extreme?
Because he's outspoken, with reason mind you.

He has his stupid moments sadly, which causes people to assume that he's just a big religion hating asshole.
Personally though I've watched some of his lectures and discussions and most of the time he seems quite level headed, he just doesn't put up with bullshit.

What are his stupid moments?
What are his stupid moments?
If i recall correctly he's made some statements that were much less of "lets all accept eachother" and more "religious people are pricks"
some tweets if i remember right
What are his stupid moments?
Like that recent Muslim one were he made the statement about no Muslim ever getting a Nobel prize, which is utterly irrelevant and just offended people.
I like Dawkins. Why exactly do people call him extreme?
Because he doesn't like the bullshit found in some religions and is very outspoken about his dislike for those religions.

This is a dumb reply.

It's true and it deserves recognition. The Islamic world used to be the center of learning and culture for centuries, until a Muslim cleric declared math to be evil. Look where they are now.
What's really irrelevant is if people are offended.
I mostly avoid labeling myself as an atheist mainly because atheists is seen by other people as circle jerking assholes who have a superiority complex.
While this could apply to any religion, I feel it particularly affects atheism *cough*r/atheism*cough*.

Of course people were offending, as far as the muslims were concerned he was saying they were incapable of doing anything notable, whether that was his intention or not. He should have been more tactful.

If dumb people make dumb assumptions, why should anyone care? I can't imagine that he said anything untrue. I would love to see this quote you are referring to.

What he said isn't untrue, but you can't expect people not to be offended by the remark.

You've completely switched what you said. You just admitted that what he said it true. So it wasn't a stupid moment.

I never said it wasn't true, so no I haven't switched what I said. He still offended a load of people for no reason, he wasn't making a logical point, he was just taking a potshot at muslims.

So what he said was a true, historical fact. But it's somehow not a logical point? What is logic, then?
It's extremely clear what Professor Dawkins was trying to do with that statement. The history behind it is an exemplary case of how religion can stifle scientific knowledge. This is not just some ancient anecdote; it is an ongoing problem in many nations of the world today.
