At her birth, on Feb. 28, 1926, she was named Svetlana Stalina, the only daughter and last surviving child of the brutal Soviet tyrant Josef Stalin. After he died in 1953, she took her mother’s last name, Alliluyeva. In 1970, after her defection and an American marriage, she became and remained Lana Peters. Ms. Peters died of colon cancer on Nov. 22 in Richland County, Wis., the county’s corporation counsel, Benjamin Southwick, said on Monday. Her death, like the last years of her life, occurred away from public view. There were hints of it online and in Richland Center, the Wisconsin town in which she lived, though a local funeral home said to be handling the burial would not confirm the death. A county official in Wisconsin thought she might have died several months ago. Phone calls seeking information from a surviving daughter, Olga Peters, who now goes by the name Chrese Evans, were rebuffed, as were efforts to speak to her in person in Portland, Ore., where she lives and works. Ms. Peters’s initial prominence came only from being Stalin’s daughter, a distinction that fed public curiosity about her life across three continents and many decades. She said she hated her past and felt like a slave to extraordinary circumstances. Yet she drew on that past, and the infamous Stalin name, in writing two best-selling autobiographies. Long after fleeing her homeland, she seemed to be still searching for something — sampling religions, from Hinduism to Christian Science, falling in love and constantly moving. Her defection took her from India, through Europe, to the United States. After moving back to Moscow in 1984, and from there to Soviet Georgia, friends told of her going again to America, then to England, then to France, then back to America, then to England again, and on and on. All the while she faded from the public eye..... .....
http://www.nytimes.com/2011/11/29/world/europe/stalins-daughter-dies-at-85.html?_r=1&hp=&pagewanted=all This caught my eye. Wait with your ''RIP comrade USSR!'' remarks, because is she was a dissident who emigrated to the United States in the mid 60's. The article includes some pretty interesting backstory of Svetlena Alliluyeva, also known as Stalina, also known as Lana Peters, that's the primary reason why I'm posting it.
I must find her daughter's daughter and marry her. True russian must make soviet babies.
RIP I guess.
holy shit, a part of history just died
Must've been shitty growing up in that kind of shadow...
Must've been shitty growing up in that kind of shadow...
Ye Gods, can you imagine? The child of an infamous dictator.
Gotta get my hands on her autobiographies one day. Must be interesting.
Ye Gods, can you imagine? The child of an infamous dictator.
As she said herself
And he left a shadow from which she could never emerge. “Wherever I go,” she said, “here, or Switzerland, or India, or wherever. Australia. Some island. I will always be a political prisoner of my father’s name.”
Basically her whole life she had to live with prejudice, due to her father.
You think that's shitty? Look at his son Yakov.
Ye Gods, can you imagine? The child of an infamous dictator.
An infamous dictator who killed your mother and failed at making it look like a suicide. And also had sex with your mother when she was 19 and he was 40.
I must find her daughter's daughter and marry her. True russian must make soviet babies.
But you're American.
But you're American.
He'll steal semen from some other Soviet descendant. :downs:

Holy shit she has the same name as my first cat.
Let's drink to her once more. She was a good stalker.
holy shit, a part of history just died
"There is properly no history; only biography"
Sad that she passed, but good for her for defecting. Truly a shame anyone would have to live under such a heritage. Such is life from Moscow.
You think that's shitty? Look at his son Yakov.

While Stalin and his wife were arguing about this a shot was heard from Yakov's room. Yakov had shot himself. While she tended to his wounds and sent for a doctor all his father said was, "He can't even shoot straight."
Damn what an asshole.
Damn what an asshole.
IT TOUGHENS BOY UP TO BE TRUE SOVIET MAN. AMERICAN COWARDS WILL NEVER UNDERSTAND.
But you're American.
Just because one lives in America doesn't mean that they don't come from Russian decent. [editline]29th November 2011[/editline] Although he was making an obvious joke. [editline]29th November 2011[/editline] And someone with my type of Username shouldn't post in a thread like this.
I feel like a fool for not knowing Stalin even had kids.
I feel like a fool for not knowing Stalin even had kids.
I always thought he ate them right after birth.
I feel like a fool for not knowing Stalin even had kids.
I didn't know it, either. I remember there being a fictional miniseries about the search for Stalin's lost illegitimate child, who he had with a young secretary and who was smuggled away into the forest. Stalin died and he had the child's mother killed. They eventually did find him, aware of who his father was and having been raised by a comrade of Stalin's, in a secluded shack in a rural village, living by himself. Interesting stuff. I figured they made a big deal over it because he didn't have children.
Wow... I was only just reading about her about a week ago, Very sad.
But you're American.
I'm pretty sure his ethnicity isn't indigenous American though
You think that's shitty? Look at his son Yakov.

Dzhugashvili served as an artillery officer in the Red Army and was captured on 16 July 1941 in the early stages of the German invasion of USSR at the Battle of Smolensk. The Germans later offered to exchange Yakov for Friedrich Paulus, the German Field Marshal captured by the Soviets after the Battle of Stalingrad, but Stalin turned the offer down, allegedly saying "I will not trade a Marshal for a Lieutenant". According to some sources, there was another proposition as well, that Hitler wanted to exchange Yakov for his nephew Leo Raubal; this proposition was not accepted either. It is not clear when and how he died. According to the official German account, Dzhugashvili died by running into an electric fence in the Sachsenhausen concentration camp, where he was being held. Some have contended that Yakov committed suicide at the camp while others have suggested that he was murdered.
Wow Stalin is a fucking dickbag.
