Air Force cuts aviation support for public events http://www.usafa.af.mil/news/story.asp?id=123338425
Effective March 1, active-duty, Reserve and Guard units will cease all aviation support to the public. This includes the cancellation of support to all air shows, tradeshows, flyovers (including funerals and military graduations), orientation flights, heritage flights, F-22 Raptor demonstration flights and open houses, unless the event includes only local static assets. Additionally, the Air Force will cancel the Thunderbirds' entire 2013 season beginning April 1.
I was lucky to see the Thunderbirds in Maine at an air show last summer, it's a shame they're being cancelled. Air shows have been one of my favorite events during summer vacations. The acts are mostly hired stunt planes now, there aren't as many jets as there used to be. Budget cuts suck, and this also means there won't be Air Force Academy graduation flyovers anymore, as pictured above. This year was also the Thunderbird's 60th anniversary. This is going to hurt a lot of businesses big time. So many people plan trips where the shows take place and the local businesses benefit, but now shows featuring the Air Force or Navy are being cancelled. [editline].[/editline] Looks like the Blue Angels will also be cancelled. http://www.reuters.com/article/2013/03/01/us-usa-fiscal-blueangels-idUSBRE9200HO20130301
I hope this doesn't impact the Abbotsford Airshow too heavily.
You want military budget cuts, this is what you get.
I saw the Thunderbirds and The Blue Angels twice in my life, im going to miss them. [editline]2nd March 2013[/editline]
"farewell" is a bit melodramatic [editline]2nd March 2013[/editline] Blue Angels, Thunderbirds aren't disappearing
Oh, they arent? Good!

NO!!! :C [editline]1st March 2013[/editline] Okay maybe that was a bit premature.

I have a bunch of posters and other thunder-birds stuff since my dad was friends with one of the ground crew. Even their ground crew did some cool stuff.
oh god that image is just too similar to this: http://imagehaul.com/thehauls/a6c0c2d8437c7a052d0700f953856410.jpg
I always will remember the day my family was on the road, and one of the Blue Angel jets flew above us, he flew down real low and was showing off a bit, we got to see him above us through the open sunroof :v: (The surrounding area was flat and had no trees)
The local one near me "Southend Air Show" has been on the canning line-up too. Which really sucks because it was awesome to see.
As far as I know the Blue Angels themselves do not know whether they're going to be cancelled or not from this:
Fuck, I went down to Miramar every year to see the Air Show there. The Blue Angels were always one of the best parts. I'm gonna blame budget cuts. They've been chafing at pretty much every branch lately.
Aw man seeing the Thunderbirds and Blue Angels at the Chicago airshows as a kid was incredible, they will be missed.

You could always start asking Canada if you can borrow the Snowbirds for a while.
Well at least I won't have one week filled with jets flying around the air when I'm trying to play my video games. [editline]2nd March 2013[/editline] I live close to a air base.
Maybe I can get some sleep for once. AC-130's shoot a good 5-10 Million worth of ammo where I live every other night
I saw the thunderbirds and the Blue Angels a couple times. They're really skilled pilots to say the least with the shit they do.
I was stationed at the home base of the Blue Angels. I saw them almost every day fro 2 years. I am indifferent on this situation.
We could lend you the Red Arrows if you need them that badly. Actually, I think they've been cut as well.
Not the Blue Angels. :(
We could lend you the Red Arrows if you need them that badly. Actually, I think they've been cut as well.
Nah, we've still got them. For the time being.
The thunderbirds got cancelled so that they can relocate more time for training. They'll still be here though, only instead of cool airshow demonstrations they literally became the Air Force's public relations team going around high schools and universities while supporting the Air Force recruitments. The blue angels only got four shows cancelled AFAIK.
