A Russian yacht has been detained by North Korean coastguards in the Sea of Japan, Russia's foreign ministry says. Reports say the sailboat with five crew on board was intercepted as it was returning to Russia after participating in a competition in South Korea. Russian diplomats have demanded the crew's immediate release and an explanation. Russia is one of the few countries that has relatively friendly ties with North Korea. Yeah that's a smart move, go ahead and piss off one of the few countries that maintain a non-hostile relationship with you.
This is gonna be good.
Nothing will happen. The crew will be released after a while and that's it.
If they end up arresting the crew, I say we let Russia do whatever the hell they feel like.
Russia is about to have some fun.
Oh shit. The fact that they were in South Korea before getting caught might make matters worse.
If they end up arresting the crew, I say we let Russia do whatever the hell they feel like.
You're delusional if you think Russia would go to war with NK. Putin isn't as dumb as you think.
That's interesting, I didnt know that Russia actually shared a tiny little bit of its border with NK.
watch russia annex north korea to save the russian minorities
If they end up arresting the crew, I say we let Russia do whatever the hell they feel like.
Like threatening to end their secret illegal trading operations?
:speechless:
It's a 10 mile strip of land, on the furthest east land border NK has... Less than 1.2% of NK's total land borders. Russia's smallest land border, 5th shortest land border in the world. Don't be condescending and act like he's an idiot for not knowing that.
A quiet word and a few small gestures and they'll be released. NK has no use for them as leverage as they would with US tourists.

The only one acting condescending here is you.
You're delusional if you think Russia would go to war with NK. Putin isn't as dumb as you think.
You would also have to be delusional to be totally cool with russia doing "whatever the hell they feel like" no matter the situation.
They do shit like that all the time, we should create a NK dickwaving report megathread instead
You're delusional if you think Russia would go to war with NK. Putin isn't as dumb as you think.
Not that it would happen, but Russia would absolutely love to be able to absorb the bordering warm-water port city of Rason if they were given the chance. If there was ever any incentive for any 1st world nations to go to war with NK, Russia would probably be one of the first to volunteer during such an altercation if that was one of the spoils they could obtain.
Please, tell me more. The only one acting condescending here is you.
No, he's right, it's you.
Seems that it was in North Korean's waters, so they weren't in the wrong to intercept the boat. They'll probably release them and nothing will happen.
They were in North Korea's waters by their standards . Normal neutral waters end at 15 KM towards the water border, but Korea claims up to 50.
Please, tell me more. The only one acting condescending here is you.
it's you
Fifty-one stars say otherwise.
They only mean so much most of the time. But you know, the point in posting the speechless-smiley was because A) thread is about NK and Russia specifically, B) it has been commonly noted in videos and documentaries about NK, and C) there was even this craze a few years back where news stations and some people were keen on checking out NK prison camps through satellite images, so I'm surprised people who even bother to enter a thread about NK don't know a bit about its geography.

Yacht released, NK said it was detained by a mistake.
Putin isn't dumb. Putin simply does things in unexpected ways that often surprises other politicians and presidents because they think that he can be expected to to thing the way they are expected to do, but they always forget that he does things that are unexpected, so they are always surprised by the unexpectedness what everybody should be prepared to expect by now instead.
Whelp it looks like it's time to liberate the oppressed Russian population in NK
You're delusional if you think Russia would go to war with NK. Putin isn't as dumb as you think.
We said that about Ukraine and while they got sanctioned, they were still allowed to maintain their annexed property and their breakaway puppet state.
We said that about Ukraine and while they got sanctioned, they were still allowed to maintain their annexed property and their breakaway puppet state.
Except NK is an entirely different can of worms. There's no way you're doing anything to the north koreans that doesn't end in a complete bloodbath. Unless you're willing to use nukes, which would be counterproductive.
