People’s desperation to finish games quickly has always bemused me. It’s like spending £20 on a Blu-Ray movie and then watching it on fast-forward, and boasting to your friends it only took you 45 minutes to watch Avatar. (Well, that’s not a good example, but you understand the point.) When spending £30-£50 on a game, surely you’d want to take your time, get the most out of it? Take the “1000G” approach (to speak in the parlance of our console cousins).
agreed who the hell cares how fast you can finish a game
agreed who the hell cares how fast you can finish a game
I can see how some like the challenge, but certainly not on the first time playing through the game.
I sat down and played for about four hours yesterday and only got about half way through, and I'm damn well proud of it. I don't get why people buy a $45-$50 game and then beat it within a few days of release. You've gotta pace yourself to some extent. :colbert:
Steam said I completed it in two
I always play fast and finish new games within 4,5,6 hrs depending on the game and I hate it when I do it but I can't control myself :saddowns:
agreed who the hell cares how fast you can finish a game
Reminds me of everyone who whines about how CoD and other similar games are only 5 or 6 hours long. Damn speedrunners.
2 of my steam friends started playing it 10 minutes after it came out, and messaged me 5 or 6 hours later saying they beat it. I'm not paying $60 for a game that only lasts that long, sorry Valve. I get one or two games every six months and I'd like them to last. Also, yeah I know about multiplayer but it's not like gameplay changes much. Then again, I didn't think Portal 1 was the most amazing game ever. Innovative, yes, fun, 5/10.
Getting it tomorrow. Plan to just use a timer on my phone and see how long a proper full play through with experiencing as much as possible takes.
I played it around 8 hours, also the co-op takes time.
I prefer to look at the efforts of the designers and artists that put great detail into every nook and cranny of the game, these game are to be savoured.
Speedrunning is a common practice in videogames, I don't see why it's an retarded excuse for bashing a game, like in this case. The first time I played Metroid Fusion I spent more than 10 hours only to finish it normally, but now I can beat it in one hour and a half, and complete the game at 100% in less than 3 hours. Does it make it a mediocre game? NOPE
I finished it on my first playthrough in 3 and a half hours, I missed pretty much everything and concentrated solely on finishing it. I've been back through and did a standard playthrough and it took 5-6 hours and was much more enjoyable. Portal 2 is easily finishable in 2-3 hours if you know the solutions.
Can't wait for the SDK update to be released. It'll allow the community to add a lot more content, even though I'm not complaining about the current package at all.
In fact I just quickly looked at a suggestion from the RPS article, the time taken from The Wake Up Call achievement to the time taken from Lunacy (in one sitting) Wake Up Call - Unlocked: Apr 19, 2011 6:12am Lunacy -Unlocked: Apr 19, 2011 9:19am And I started playing the moment I could yesterday morning. And for Coop going from the first high five to the last achievement; High Five - Unlocked: Apr 19, 2011 9:49am You Saved Science - Unlocked: Apr 19, 2011 1:21pm All in one sitting roughly (had a sandwich between Singleplayer and Coop), Just because I completed it quickly doesn't mean I didn't enjoy it, and I've since gone back and done the Singleplayer once more and the coop twice more. Now I am doing the developers commentary.

I'm sorry, but that's just impossible without knowing exactly what to do everywhere.
agreed who the hell cares how fast you can finish a game
admittedly I did rush through it quite a bit toward the end, I really wanted to know what was going to happen, so I kind of missed out on it actually happening. the thing is though, I can always go back and play it without the rush now I know how it plays out.
I refuse to believe you somehow managed to complete the SP in 3 hours for your first time. If you know what you are looking for the game is really easy.
The puzzles are fucking hard at itmes, sometimes take me like 20 minutes to figure out so no icemaz your lying.
Biggest question is. Does the game have any replay value?!
The puzzles are fucking hard at itmes, sometimes take me like 20 minutes to figure out so no icemaz your lying.
They are hard at times but they were still reletively easy. Coop was a lot harder and it would've taken me a lot longer if I wasn't with someone else who was good at Portal. Also I hadn't watched any playthroughs or anything so. I'm not saying its a bad game but it can be done quickly.

I've put 7.5 hours into the single player component, and I'm still not finished. I'm proud of the value it is giving me and it has been hilarious, especially [sp]Cave Johnson in the middle levels[/sp] I can't wait to try out co-op with a buddy. This game has one of the funniest and more interesting storylines I've seen in a while.
I'm sorry, but I'm just not going to believe that you played the game without rushing and you finished it in 3 hours. There's just no way you could do that.
I honestly don't understand why you wouldn't believe me but ok.
I honestly don't understand why you wouldn't believe me but ok.
I took my time to listen to all the dialogue, didn't take too long on most of the test chambers and it took me 6 hours. I really don't understand how could you possibly take 3 hours to finish it without already knowing how to complete everything.

I had a lot of fun with it, it's a great puzzle game. That was all I wanted and that is what I got. The reason I sat down and beat it in one sitting wasn't out of some need to be the fastest, it was because I was wowed by the story and intrigued by the clever puzzles so much that I was utterly immersed and couldn't actually stop until I was done.
if people are complaining about a generally good game maybe they shouldn't have such super high expectations
I beat it yesterday in about seven hours (my timer says longer but I took an hour break for dinner and a few other smaller breaks). In my opinion, the game was fantastic and I enjoyed every second of it. The puzzles were interesting and some were difficult (I spent good chunks of time on a few of them). Spent most of last night laughing my ass off with a buddy in co-op.
