• North Carolina GOP Lawmaker Calls For Bringing Back Public Hangings, Starting With Abortion Provider
The last legal public hanging in America took place in 1936 in Owensboro, Kentucky. The “event” attracted 20,000 people and turned into such a sickening spectacle that many credit it with ending the practice in the U.S. But one North Carolina Republican believes that as a country we’ve grown soft since banning public hangings and is calling for them to reinstated as a deterrent to crime. If Rep. Larry Pittman had his way, “abortionists, rapists, and kidnappers” would be first in line for the gallows: Republican Rep. Larry Pittman, who was appointed to the District 82 House seat in October, expressed his views in an email sent Wednesday to every member of the General Assembly. [...] “We need to make the death penalty a real deterrent again by actually carrying it out. Every appeal that can be made should have to be made at one time, not in a serial manner,” Pittman wrote in the email. “If murderers (and I would include abortionists, rapists, and kidnappers, as well) are actually executed, it will at least have the deterrent effect upon them. For my money, we should go back to public hangings, which would be more of a deterrent to others, as well.” As ThinkProgress reported, last year Republicans in South Carolina, Nebraska, and Iowa pushed legislation that would essentially legalize the murder of abortion providers. Such radical sentiments have been echoed by prominent conservatives like Sen. Tom Coburn (R-OK), who said during his 2004 campaign, “I favor the death penalty for abortionists.”
http://thinkprogress.org/health/2012/01/27/413611/north-carolina-gop-lawmaker-calls-for-bringing-back-public-hangings-starting-with-abortion-providers/?mobile=nc
He's a dumb man and only other dumb people will listen to him.
Yes, because executions always have a deterrent effect. Just look at the low violent crime rates in countries with death penalty and in those that abolished it. You'll clearly see it's effective.
He's a dumb man and only other dumb people will listen to him.
Quite a lot of people are dumb
This guy is a cancer on society.
He's a dumb man and only other dumb people will listen to him.
AKA conservatives.
He's a dumb man and only other dumb people will listen to him.
well he WAS voted in, after all oh dear
Yeah fuck women who want to get abortions for whatever reason they see fit these people are monsters.
Why do right-wingers feel the need to have such 'macho-ness'?
AKA conservatives.
perpetuating the same ignorance that this man spews you're a dummy
Also, to improve upon his idea I think that we should also hang the women. It would only be fair if we're hanging the abortionists. :v:
Let's test it with this guy instead.
Wow, for once the comments are not filled with idiots. Sadly, there have to be a lot of stupid people for him to be elected in the first place.
Also, to improve upon his idea I think that we should also hang the women. It would only be fair if we're hanging the abortionists. :v:
Congratulations, we just went extinct. My last act on this earth would be kicking your ass. :v: Honestly, something is wrong with America if people like THIS can get into power.
“If murderers (and I would include abortionists, rapists, and kidnappers, as well) are actually executed, it will at least have the deterrent effect upon them.
Does it actually count as a deterrant for an individual if they're dead? Surely it renders them physically incapable of comitting another crime, as opposed to scaring them away from comitting it. :v:
It's like they WANT to be hated by every sane and sound person.
He's a dumb man and only other dumb people will listen to him.
So it'll get passed then? [editline]28th January 2012[/editline]
This guy is a cancer on society.
All republicans and conservatives are.
So it'll get passed then? [editline]28th January 2012[/editline] All republicans and conservatives are.
Yeah, all Republicans and conservatives are evil, right? Way to be just as small-minded as the person you're against.
All republicans and conservatives are.
Please leave.
perpetuating the same ignorance that this man spews you're a dummy
Not at all. You're using the same argument that conservative apologists constantly use on this forum. Conservatives are the ones who voted him in. Even if he didn't say such an asinine statement like the one in the OP, he still would be considered ignorant due to his social views and thus anyone who voted for him should be held accountable as well.
Fuck yeah my state! :usa: seriously though please get me out of here.
Wow. This is stupid, like... Really stupid.
So it'll get passed then? [editline]28th January 2012[/editline] All republicans and conservatives are.
Yes, and all Germans are Nazis, all US soldiers are sadists, all Muslims are terrorists, all Europeans are snooty, all Americans are fat red necks and Texans, all Frenchmen are cowards, all Englishmen have crooked teeth, all people on the internet are fat, all gamers are six, all games are bad, all democrats hate America, all gays are flamboyant, all Canadians love hockey, and all Slovakians are the link to monkeys. I can stereotype too.
Also, to improve upon his idea I think that we should also hang the women. It would only be fair if we're hanging the abortionists. :v:
We need to hang Hippie Communist LIEberals as well. :v:
Yes, because executions always have a deterrent effect. Just look at the low violent crime rates in countries with death penalty and in those that abolished it. You'll clearly see it's effective.
Totally not due to other factors, right? [editline]28th January 2012[/editline] Oh look Japan is one of the safest countries in the world and has a death penalty, the death penalty must make crime reduce dramatically. Right? See, I can generalize and extrapolate data beyond logical conclusions too
Lol how stupid
ok, this may sound like an over reaction but how can you POSSIBLY AT ALL claim to be pro-life and then turn around and support the war, and not support public healthcare for people who can't afford it? That's basically completely jumping away from the word of "pro-life"... maybe "pro-life" is just a bad slang for anti-abortion? it just... doesn't add up for me at all. I mean, being anti-abortion is nice, fine, you can be that, but at least also be pro-public health care, anti-war, and pro-environmentalist, and want equal rights. There's no way you can be empathetic when you're the opposite, it sounds more like a way to get false votes.
