In a backwater Iowa town, Gilbert (Johnny Depp) struggles to take care of his mentally disabled brother, Arnie (Leonardo DiCaprio), and provide for the rest of his family. But after falling for the stranded Becky (Juliette Lewis), Gilbert discovers exciting new possibilities for his life. Co-starring Mary Steenburgen, John C. Reilly and Crispin Glover, this tender drama earned DiCaprio an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor.
Basically, Leonardo DiCaprio plays a mentally retarded teenager whose older brother, Johnny Depp, constantly looks out for him a long with his two sisters. But he also has to work a job and care for his mother who is morbidly obese. On top of that he falls in love with a traveling girl which only complicates things further.
I actually recall tearing up once or twice during the movie.
The movie is fucking outstanding. Leonardo DiCaprio does an amazing job, and Johnny Depp is right behind him the entire time. Their relationship feels real and emotional.
If you haven't seen it I very highly suggest you do. It's currently on Netflix for those of you with Netflix subscriptions.
Johnny Depp's awesome.
Girlfriend goes ape-shit over this movie.
