Trump Told Russians That Firing ‘Nut Job’ Comey Eased Pressure From Investigation https://www.nytimes.com/2017/05/19/us/politics/trump-russia-comey.html?smid=tw-share&_r=1
President Trump told Russian officials in the Oval Office this month that firing the F.B.I. director, James B. Comey, had relieved "great pressure" on him, according to a document summarizing the meeting. "I just fired the head of the F.B.I. He was crazy, a real nut job," Mr. Trump said, according to the document, which was read to The New York Times by an American official. "I faced great pressure because of Russia. That’s taken off." Mr. Trump added, "I’m not under investigation." The conversation, during a May 10 meeting - the day after he fired Mr. Comey - reinforces the notion that Mr. Trump dismissed him primarily because of the bureau’s investigation into possible collusion between his campaign and Russian operatives. Mr. Trump said as much in one televised interview, but the White House has offered changing justifications for the firing.

Sean Spicer, the White House press secretary, did not dispute the account.
Sweet Jesus CHRIST, it's a scandal after scandal after scanadal.
If you defend this shit, you're becoming incredibly complicit in the blatant and obvious corruption in the white house
I wonder how someone could defend this. "no guys you don't get it, trump is just saying that comey really likes pistachios"
Holy crap that's amazing That he's saying shit like this despite knowing he has to be squeaky clean. Dummkopf.
This whole shindig with Trump and firing Comey is getting better by the day
I hope Chonch comes in here and tells us how this is actually a positive sign. (User was banned for this post ("Off topic/Another dumb callout ban - Stop doing this people" - Reagy))
Mr. Trump added, "I’m not under investigation."
Gotta make sure to remind people every time they bring up the investigation you're currently under.
I hope Chonch comes in here and tells us how this is actually a positive sign.
well he's the sitting president and therefore we have to be complacent with everything he does Don't mention that this isn't what his attitude was during Obama's tenure, because the hypocrisy might literally kill him

They're not even defending him anymore. They're pretty much telling us that Trump is corrupt and considers the person who was investigating the Russian issue "insane." Trump has way way way too many connections to Russia for him not to be compromised. Get him out of there.

Even white house staffers are done with this guy
I wonder how someone could defend this. "no guys you don't get it, trump is just saying that comey really likes pistachios"
You have to understand there there is not a point in which the people you're referring to will stop defending Trump. The more obvious it becomes that Trump is the single most corrupt politician in United States history, the farther they will go to defend and excuse him. When the evidence becomes too overwhelming to debate against, the default position will switch from arguing that Trump isn't guilty of the crimes he's being accused of to a narrative in which Trump was only doing what he had to do to save our country from the tyranny of our broken system, and that Russia is a staunch ally to those who truly value their freedom and values.
Did we really get to the point where we know Trump fired someone exactly because of investigating his ties with Russia? What's next? He reveals that he's doing all of this for shits and giggles, or reveals that he doesn't cares about the US at all and wants Russia in power?

Are White House officials finally getting to the point where they are like "I don't get paid enough to deal with this bullshit"
I'd LOVE it if there really was no evidence (hint: there is tho) of collusion but him firing Comey was seen as obstructing justice and they got him on that.

Reuters did a bit last night interviewing some trump supporters after the recent drama http://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-trump-supporters-idUSKCN18E36Q It's just depressing.
"The more negativity, the more we're for him. It's backfiring on them"

"The only news I watch is Fox, but the only news I watch and believe is whatever comes out of the president's mouth and whatever he tweets"
These two people are in my state
I'd LOVE it if there really was no evidence (hint: there is tho) of collusion but him firing Comey was seen as obstructing justice and they got him on that.
Thats a completely real possibility

Keep shit-talking the opposition as the calcified, impotent status quo that's preventing Trump from getting shit done; simultaneously praise Russia for its accomplishments and tie it to its strong leadership. Eventually people may think that to be stronger nation is to be more like Russia. Cooperate more closely, take lessons out of their handbook, follow their advice more closely, etc. At which point you could basically have Russia in power in everything but appearances.
I hope Chonch comes in here and tells us how this is actually a positive sign.
refuse to believe that chonch, nesto and thudd won't come around eventually.

Holy shit he's really doubling down on the Russian shit and blaming Comey for it. He can't keep getting away with this. Something has to give! EDIT: let's stop talking about specific users here tbh. A lot of Trump supporters on the internet are never gonna admit they made a mistake, whether for pride or whatever. So it's pointless to engage with those who don't live in reality.
Sweet Jesus CHRIST, it's a scandal after scandal after scanadal.
He has become used to saying "Trump did not do this" then having Trump say "I did this" shortly after. He no longer cares.
refuse to believe that chonch, nesto and thudd won't come around eventually.
Pretty sure heat went out because people kept calling Tudd out in any thread about Trump, it's really stupid to just sit and catcall at posters in every thread, and it makes you look petty. If they want to post to try to argue it, they will, but being openly shitty to people is not going to do anything to enlighten anyone. You can't force people to post just so you can pat yourselves on the back and laugh.

This is a direct admission that Comey's firing was done to steer the investigation favorably for the president. So they're now open that they flout the law. Nice. Said "grandstanding and politicizing" was intent to expand said investigation and therefore he needed to go. I'm not sure what supporters believe a good presidency is, but going by this statement it's that president must be able to do whatever he feels like and be free of any oversight. Any attempts to check legality of his actions are summarily shot down, because "strong" president does not accept any contest to his authoritarian power, checks and balances be damned.

A lot of people around here are still supporting Trump and are convinced there's a conspiracy against him. Local conservative radio stations are outright calling it a conspiracy. Trying to convince anyone otherwise is like banging your head against a brick wall at this point. We're fucked.

Just a thought.
I don't understand how that gives you an excuse to pull in people who haven't posted in a thread. He's not in the thread, he hasn't posted in the thread, he's not connected to this thread in any way at the moment but he's in the wrong in this thread already by existing, and you're the hero for calling him out and daring him to try to engage in conversation? How is that contributing to the discussion in a positive way? How does that put you above him? I'll clarify that you weren't the one doing it, I just assumed based on your response. That was my mistake. However my point still stands to those who were catcalling that this does nothing positive for anyone.
