Concussions are a worsening problem for the NFL after league injury statistics released on Saturday (AEDT) showed a 32 per cent jump in the serious head injuries this past season.
Data revealed total concussions suffered in pre-season and regular season NFL games jumped from 206 in 2014 to 271 in 2015, with tighter concussion protocols requiring players to be examined if their status is in doubt.
In regular season games and practices alone, there were 190 concussions documented, a 35 percent leap from 2014.
This article is phrased so fucking dumb. It's not a worsening problem they're just being more frequently diagnosed due to more strict screening holy shit. I can't tell if this is sensationalism or stupidity.
So, the problem existed to the same extent, it just wasn't noted down because there wasn't a medical microscope placed over the sport?

Doesn't Australia play the same game, but without padding or helmets?

No, not really. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Australian_rules_football
The sport hasn't gotten more dangerous, it's more like 32% more concussions that aren't being swept under the rug.

I don't see how that's much better though.

Because you don't understand that's it just perception that is getting worse due to more reported events, and not that the severity and frequency of injuries is actually going down.
two wrongs doesn't make it a right.
Yeah, I was gonna say. I know a couple Browns players were out under the new increased screening. Not that it would've helped at all.

idk if its worse that way though, the sport has been getting safer for years now, however the NFL has also spent a lot of time and effort to discredit, cover up, and deny that the players are even getting injured. Now that concussions are rising because they've been forced to diagnose them, people are going to realize that football is still a dangerous sport.
