So the ARG was just cracked for SOMA and this video was found ; credits to Teddypimm in SOMA thread for finding the vid ai horror hype
i'm excited, but i'm really hoping that it plays out a bit better than amnesia. amnesia totally lost its edge once you realize how scripted most of the enemies acted, and how obvious it was where you could hide. hopefully they pull this one off better. bizarrely i actually found penumbra more scary than amnesia, despite their thinking that "no weapons" = "more scary". actually having a chance of surviving meant that being found gave you a rush of adrenaline as you ran and prepared for the potential of fighting back. in amnesia you'd run away and if there was no place to hide or to run, it'd remove all of the scare from it because you're just like "welp" and jump into the enemy's face so you could restart

Working on sound changes a lot compared to just sight.
Penumbra isn't just a single game though Black Plague was very similar to Amnesia in a lot of aspects, including no weapons
i only ever played overture, which i found to be far scarier than amnesia
this is perfect I've always been unnerved by robotic enemies in movies and games, one example being ED-209 from robocop it's the way they move I think SOMA is gonna be really scary for me
i only ever played overture, which i found to be far scarier than amnesia
then I'd say you're missing out, on both, the full story and a chilling experience don't bother with Requiem though
Fucked up bio-bots? Literally my worst nightmare.
I never really played either one, but according to the vid the enemies seem a bit dynamic. Working on sound changes a lot compared to just sight.
this is a big thing. i really enjoy active stealth - one of the reasons that i prefer mgs1, 2, and peace walker over 3/4 as far as mechanics are concerned. stealth in mgs1&2 featured a ton of moving around, constant movement to avoid enemy detection. this game looks like it might do a bit better at that than amnesia did from the sound based stealth - luring the enemy to a specific location to get somewhere. it makes the game more involved than just "hide in a corner and wait till it leaves". that hide gameplay can certainly be stressful when you're just starting out, but when it's the same over and over again it doesn't really retain it. hopefully this game takes a more active approach to the stealth - you shouldn't be able to just hide in one spot and play the waiting game.
I'm wondering what this game is about. First trailer shows a normal room that seems to have been built inside some sort of Alien tunnel with a Brain on a pedestal, and now it's...UAC with some sort of Alien infestation growing and taking over Robots that think they're people? Or were people and got uploaded without realising. Or maybe they identify as people and really we're the bad guy?

Some of the live-action videos seems to shine some light on the subject.
Penumbra isn't just a single game though Black Plague was very similar to Amnesia in a lot of aspects, including no weapons
Penumbra had no weapons period though, throughout all 3 games
overture had weapons though
oh yeah, very shitty ones I never used them or cared to
can we save the robots?
This looks pretty rad. But it also reminds me, what the hell happened to that routine game that people compared Alien Isolation to? It looked really cool

Routine, Alien:I and Soma for sure have reunited my ability to care about horror there are so many barely scary horror games out there that it's pathetic Frictional is one of my favorite devs. They understood getting into the human brain with penumbra, and amnesia was a pretty stiff drink too.
Oh crap. I think sound is super critical for the experience. That's awesome news there.
THT[WRATH;47833174']Oh crap. I think sound is super critical for the experience.
