Hello I decided to try to give cannabutter another shot after my first attempt. For my first batch I used 2 sticks of butter, 12g of AVB (already vaped bud(which was pretty vaped)), 6g of decent quality nugs and added soy lecithin as an emulsifier to increase potency of the final product. I know this isn't an ideal amount of product if I wanted something strong but they did okay after I baked the butter into a batch of brownies. As of right now I have 15g of good quality bud, and 14g of AVB and 2 sticks of butter. My question is is will this be too big of a product to butter ratio (29g total to 2 sticks of butter) or should I buy more butter. I want to have the most potent product I can and not be wasteful with any of my weeds. A individual who is experienced with edibles would be great :D
It's really hard to judge these kind of things because x grams of weed doesn't discern the THC content. And even if you did know how much is in the butter people have different definitions of dank whether it be from tolerance, how stoned they like to get, the weed in their area, etc etc. Not to mention other variables such as how much you vaped the weed, temperature consistencies, or even the saturation properties of the butter you are using (perhaps organic butters or those made with heavier creams could absorb more or less cannabinoids?) Not to say the type of butter would even make a noticeable affect, but still.
Anyway enough of my semantic bullshit
I feel as though the amount of butter you have doesn't really matter all too much so long as you can physically fit your weed in it (and even if your butter isn't super dank, what's wrong with just eating more brownies?)
If I were you I would just try to estimate how potent your last batch was and vary the ingredients accordingly.
My mate ended up using just over an ounce of dank cheese to 1 1/2 sticks of butter. We ended up using too much of it making brownies so it had this really odd weedy buttery aftertaste but dayyyyum did it get us stoned.
As a first attempt I'd say we used too much, 3daysaweek is right, its all about seeing how dank it comes out and just playing around with the ratios.
I think that's a good ratio.. I always heard to do 7g of dank bud per stick of butter. putting some ABV in there as well shouldn't hurt it at all.
I just started up a batch of budder using the mason jar in pot method, what I am using is:
-17.1g of fresh bud, decarbed at 225'F for 25 mins added straight to melted butter
-14.0g of AVB wrapped in cheesecloth to create sort of a avb 'teabag'
-8.2 ounces of butter (which is 2 sticks i'm pretty sure)
-1 tbsp of ground soy lethicin (1/2 of it added at the start, the other half will be added later)
Planning on letting it simmer together for 5-6 hours to get all the THC to be infused into the butter.
I'll keep my progress updated.

Butter came out great, cooked it into some brownies

dont over do the decarb it may vaporize off some thc depending on which method you use everyone has a different microwave strength i really reccomend hotlamps and placing herb on brown paper like grocery bags all laid out so it dries evenly. if you can get a mini crock pot those things are perfect buy like 3-4 grams of hash and just melt it in over 12 hours makes the butter have a kind of browned flavor(not too much) which is really swell in brownies. the crock pot is also good cause u never burn your butter and can leave it while u go to work or somehing. if you are having trouble make it into one stick or cook off some water from the butter so its like 1 1/2 dense sticks but that messes with recipes.
whatever you do if your gonna hand out your edibles dont make em too strong and make em taste good :)

Me and a friend made a batch once where we used two sticks of butter, an ounce, and an entire plant on top dunked in the pot (it was a big pot).
It was unreal. Highly recommended. Product to butter ratio was still fine.
Picture related is what I followed when I made it. http://i.imgur.com/CI3OfWg.jpg
