And the "Retarded Study of the Year" award goes to...
Research confirms mothers were right all along - removing a Band-Aid is less painful when it is ripped off quickly.
A study at Queensland's James Cook University used 65 medical students who removed Band-Aids either quickly or slowly, and ranked their pain reaction from zero to 10.
Quick removal returned a pain score of 0.92 in comparison with 1.58 for those who chose the slow approach.
Researcher Dr Carl O'Kane says the research found the cause of pain to be more of a psychological issue.
"It's fascinating that if you had a preconception that slow was going to be more painful in fact it was, so it also suggests that pain is not just what you perceive but what you think you will perceive when you get the painful stimulus," he said.
"So there's a lot of cultural and psychological factors there as well."
Obviously.
I can only imagine what amazing and informative studies the James Cook University will waste money on next.
Wow 65 people what a comprehensive study into something completely pointless.
Better title: 65 medical students at James Cook University question why they even bothered going to university.
This did not require an investigation.
Billions of dollars went into this research, and it could very well save lives.

Oh wait, this is fucking stupid.
slow is better cause you get to enjoy the pain :v:
I'm always getting cuts on my hands. I have more trouble keeping the damn things on than taking them off.
These researchers are obviously bored or short on money.
What are they gonna discover next? That it is easier to clean dishes if you soak 'em first?

All the good stuff has already been studied.

How about: "How retarded are the studies undertaken at James Cook University?"
Well that was worth the money and effort
Christ, what next?
"News just in: studies show that jacking off feels good."
They're called sticky plasters btw.
They should make research on which finger is the best for picking in nose, I can never decide.
If you do it slow enough it can register as a zero

*looks at box*
Hmm... Band-Aid
A second study at Queensland's James Cook University confirmed touching a hot stove hurts, and a third revealed that you will, in fact, die if you do not eat.
It wasn't a study about whether it is more painful or not, it's about whether what you think about how painful it will be will influence the pain you feel.
It was a psychological study, and I'd imagine it wasn't a very important one.
Thx for letting me no!!!!!!!!
I thought this thread was about someone going on hunger strike in a tribute to the Band Aid appeal.
this is important because now we have exact scientifical data that proves faster is less painful rather than baseless claims
I do it slowly, I like the PAAAIINNN
:science:
Are they doing an article on some guy's research project?
What sort of pussy skin do you guys have because it doesn't hurted when i pull them off even very fucking slowly.
Thanks to Australia we have discovered this!
This is what not playing R18+ games does to your country.
no that shit hurts
They're called sticky plasters btw.
In Britain, yeah.
In America, Probably not.
Hmmm it's most likely placebo but I always thought slow hurt less.
