Google Inc will launch a new version of its Nexus 7 tablet powered by Qualcomm Inc's Snapdragon processor around July, two sources told Reuters, as the software giant pushes deeper into the cut-price mobile hardware market.
Current understanding seems to point towards a Snapdragon 800 quad core, up to 2.3 GHz, (a massive upgrade from the current N7's aging tegra 3) increased screen resolution, and possibly a price drop (doubtful.) Anyone who recently bought a Nexus 7 is fuming right now.
I hope they release one with a USB port and a 1080 screen.
I hope they release one with a USB port and a 1080 screen.
The new one will almost certainly have at least a 1080p screen, and you can already get a USB OTG cable for the current N7.
I love my Nexus 7, bring me more goodies Google.
YOU MOTHERFUCKERS I just bought mine...
I love my Nexus 7 as well. I won't need to upgrade either since the main thing I do on it is to read Batman Comics and I doubt I need a faster processor for that. :v: (Higher res screen won't do much either since the comics are really crisp as it is)
Just purchased surface pro, good thing didn't choose nexus :v:
Just purchased surface pro, good thing didn't choose nexus :v:
You also forgot to mention you spent nearly a thousand dollars more than we did.
I am so glad I didn't purchase myself a nexus 7 when I had the chance. Looks like I will be getting myself one of these.
You also forgot to mention you spent nearly a thousand dollars more than we did.
for a significantly better product.
Aww, ah well. I'm not complaining about what I've got. Bought my nexus 7 a month ago, its been brilliant.
for a significantly better product.
Alright so you have a Windows 8 tablet. Not the embedded version. It is a full fledged PC in the palm of your hands. What do you do with your tablet that I can't that justifies an additional $800 (at the least)?
Anyone who recently bought a Nexus 7 is fuming right now.
That's the case with anything running on the ARM-architecture. Either you buy it on launch day or you'll have less than a year of "being top dog". When you buy a mobile phone or a tablet, you go into it knowing that it is quite possible that in a year from now, performance/core-count could double. It's still a great tablet, might not be the greatest out there anymore but it'll still serve its purpose for years to come.
it's a no brainier that they would release a new one a year after the old one came out why would you buy one now?
are you going to turn this thread into another debate about how android is the best and fuck apple and microsoft cause that's going to be annoying to read
I don't give a shit about Android and I don't give a shit about Windows. I don't give a shit about Microsoft and I don't give a shit about Google. I am all about price to performance ratio and I have seen nothing that justifies the cost of the Surface Pro over my $199 Nexus tablet. Yeah, maybe the Surface Pro is a better device, better build quality, better hardware but you have to face the fact that it's quite a premium.
I hope they release one with a USB port and a 1080 screen.
http://dx.com/p/usb-female-to-male-charging-data-cable-for-samsung-i9100-galaxy-s2-5cm-67186 Even works with the current model (with minor software tweaks) I'm more interested in one with a separate micro-HDMI port and SD card slot (fuck cloud storage to hell and beyond, internet isn't free nor everywhere and never will be)
Not lag.
My Nexus 7 doesn't lag? For argument's sake, let's say it does stutter below a constant 60FPS while doing some graphically extensive things, still able to argue that it's worth another EIGHT HUNDRED DOLLARS? I mean for that price you could build a moderately high-end PC. For that price you could buy a car.
Not lag.
"the 2013 VW polo diesel has some minor performance issues when passing fast moving cars on the highway so i bought a nissan GTR instead"
Not lag.
Do you have google alerts set up for mentions of Android on Facepunch so you can show up, rip off your pants, and shit everywhere within a few hours of the thread being made?
I would, but they would probably lag too.
Most people don't know this but google's indexing servers are actually just a single motorola droid with cyanogenmod on it
The new one will almost certainly have at least a 1080p screen, and you can already get a USB OTG cable for the current N7.
These leaked specs combined with the belief of a price drop are contrary to reality. A 1080p display at 7" would have to be LTPS unless they somehow have Sharp mass producing tons of IGZO displays. That alone will make it hard if not impossible to keep at $199, but then it's believed to use a Snapdragon 800 chip? The flagship of mobile SoCs? I don't really see it happening. Not even the app launcher is 60fps on the Nexus 7, I was using one earlier today. Perfectly noticeable even without a 60fps reference device.
Just purchased surface pro, good thing didn't choose nexus :v:
you probably could have waited for a sale and bought the nexus alongside it why the fuck are you even bringing a surface pro in to this thread, it's like comparing a supercomputer to a regular server

The Nexus 7's build quality is already quite questionable as is, which is why I'm not going to buy a new one. I love mine to bits though. [editline]4th April 2013[/editline]
for a significantly better product.
Personally I prefer my Nexus 7 over the Surface just because it's perfect for reading books, I don't think it would be very convenient to read books on something a lot bigger.

The Nexus 7's first runs had users tightening things for god's sake, and they had problems with the screen lifting up. Really hope that's not true. Maybe if Google made an OS that didn't require ridiculous hardware to mask the lag they could keep with a quad core Cortex-A9 and work on the build quality. Not the cut down RT model.
Got mine as a Christmas present for myself honestly I see no need to upgrade because my nexus 7 does everything I want it to do
I loved my Nexus 7 until it dropped literally ~2cm and broke. :v:
you probably could have waited for a sale and bought the nexus alongside it why the fuck are you even bringing a surface pro in to this thread, it's like comparing a supercomputer to a regular server
Cause earlier I was in Computer General talking about tablets i should buy
The surface PRO is a full Windows machine. Not the cut down RT model.
What does that have to do with his post? He was saying that he likes the size of the Nexus 7 for reading books.
