• Trump University Legal Battle Ends After 7 Years, Trump to Pay USD $25 Million
A judge on Friday approved an agreement for President Donald Trump to pay $25 million to settle lawsuits over his now-defunct Trump University, ending nearly seven years of legal battles with customers who claimed they were misled by failed promises to teach success in real estate. U.S. District Judge Gonzalo Curiel's ruling settles two class-action lawsuits and a civil lawsuit by New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman. Trump had vowed never to settle but said after the election that he didn't have time for a trial, even though he believed he would have prevailed. Under terms of the settlement, he admits no wrongdoing. The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the ruling.
AP
"Pocket change"
you dropped a penny Trump
This is what I have never understood about the law. It is clear that Trump will have no problem paying this. If fines are suppose to be the financial detriment (because lets be honest, I'd always travel 50 in a 35 if being caught didn't mean going hungry), then how is this fair? Better yet, how does this act as a detriment? He could afford to defraud the same people dozens of times over before it makes a difference to him. Money is too fucking powerful. This is bullshit.

Then there are some that would feel that its unfair to pay tens of thousands of dollars for a traffic violation, just because earn a lot of money. I get what you're saying, but really the only punishment options we can really offer are financial detriment, or imprisonment, and imprisonment should really be reserved for more heinous crimes. $25 million is a drop in the bucket for mr Trump, but it prevents many many others from committing this kind of fraud.

The fact of the matter is that justice is dead when, for the same crime, one person can have a punishment that has a negligible effect on them, while another would be instantly bankrupt by it and have their lives ruined by it, solely because of how much fucking money that person has. With a system like that, justice does not exist.

For speeding, fines are issued based on the amount of spending money they are expected to have in a single day, divided by two, then multiplied by a value based on the severity of the violation. Day-Fines are really the only way to equally enforce fines across incomes. If settlement cases were adjusted as such as well, then I would have a hell of a lot more faith in the justice system. As it stands right now, the rich can continue fucking people over while anyone with moderate or low income committing the same kind of crime will be utterly ruined by settling.
I thought Trump got only the best deals, because he's the best businessman. Is that actually untrue? What kind of lousy businessman gets a deal where he loses $25 million?
Glad that shit is over with [editline]31st March 2017[/editline]
I thought Trump got only the best deals, because he's the best businessman. Is that actually untrue?
A businessman who's running the best country on earth
right into the fucking ground at terminal velocity
Finally forced to pay for a crime, supporters are steadily turning against him, and it seems to be he left a couple smoking guns at a number of corrupt dealings. It seems he's gaining speed and rolling down the hill he once stood at the top of, maybe soon his entire administration will be thrown into the garbage and there'll be a new one without GOP stamp of approval.
A businessman who's running the best country on earth
best?
For the record this is .007143% of Trumps net worth.
A businessman who's running the best country on earth
Not the best lol
best?
(Currently) most powerful would be a better way to put it.
whether the US is good at doing basically anything is up for debate
... And now this shithead is president. It must sting real bad knowing that the man who wasted your time in money on a failed university is now getting his luxury vacations paid for directly by you and your countrymen. The fine should be proportional to the profit gained from the activity. This would allow scaling for time and severity of financial impact.
Glad that shit is over with [editline]31st March 2017[/editline] A conman who's running the best country on earth
Fixed that for you buddy. When you say you are, "glad this shit is over", are you disparaging the people suing Trump or just genuinely happy because you think that someone you like being a total scammer isn't going to be in the news any more?
Just the single most vital bullet point of the global economy and the balancing beam for Western living in a modern sense is all
But that doesn't really make it that good though. China is also pretty important to the global economy, but they aren't known for being the best when it comes to human rights
Just the single most vital bullet point of the global economy and the balancing beam for Western living in a modern sense is all
So? Not really sure what that has to do with it not being the best.
He's truly a man of the people
Do you really think this lawsuit as worth 80%+ or something of the like of his net value?
Do you really think this lawsuit as worth 80%+ or something of the like of his net value?
I think he's being sarcastic
Just the single most vital bullet point of the global economy and the balancing beam for Western living in a modern sense is all
Being important doesn't really make the country "the best". It just means you're important. Much like a lot of other countries are important. Because, and this may come as a shock to you, the world is not a collection of islands, we all depend on each other for things now and we can't go back from that.
