Summary:
Texas has been dry for a while due to drought, and Tropical Storm Lee's been kicking up wind, which caused wildfires. This big one in Bastrop (south of Austin) burned down 1,554 houses, and it's been said that this number will get bigger. The sheriff says the 17 people missing might just be out of town. They are planning to get back into what remains of their homes and lives on Monday.
Ridiculously old?
Isn't there another thread explaining how this is all Perrys fault?

Texas, please God take our rain - NJ
This has been the most drenching summer I have seen in all my life in New Jersey. Since mid-July, it has not gone more than 5 continuous days without rain. We have major flooding in areas we never thought possible to flood. Hell, two weeks ago we received 11 inches of rain in 24 hours.
PLEASE TAKE OUR RAIN, TEXAS - IT'S FREE

He cut 75% funding the TX fire departments, granted, wildfires aren't easy to fight.

Stop crying I have way more rain to deal with.

Our rivers and lakes are overflowing along with houses on top of hills having their basements filled with water.
New Jersey just isn't built for this stuff like England.

Maybe he made the cuts because the drought caused a shortage of water available to the firefighters, making them pointless.

Because water is the only thing that can stop fires from spreading.
My sister lives like 20 minutes away from the fire, she said she wouldn't be harmed but the entire town is filled with smoke.
It seems that Perry's plan consisting of praying God for rain and cutting down the firefighter's budget by 75% is working pretty well.
Didn't that republican texas nominee say we don't need federal aid and cut 75% funding, and now he or she is asking for federal aid?
Gah, it's been 90 degrees F - 110 degrees F for the past 3 months now :c

I live right next to a lake and it was low to begin with because of the drought but Houston is now leeching off of it for drinking water. There's also hundreds of lakes that are now dry beds with dead fish in them. This is the same lake their using to fight the Magnolia fire mind you. Not sure how much water is left in it. Haven't seen it this dry since they opened the flood gates during Ike.

I live on the ass end of that lake near Montgomery. Smoke billows up every so often but I can't really see it from my house due to trees. But you can definitely see it from the highway. Looks like they have it fairly contained.

I'm sorry, but I find it hard to believe someone is so terrible that they would cut something so important right now.

It's not really old if it's ongoing.
Even if fires have been happening for months.

Nope, Ricky Dear Boy cut funding because cutting funding is the Republican thing to do.

oh yeah that cold front was sexy. Sexy as shit. Mmmmm 91 degrees.
I was listening to my local news outlet this morning, "Totally conservative newsoutlet I'm A radical" And the lady was saying, "Holy crap i just got news that one thousand acres have been burned, And one hundred thousand houses have been burned" Later on in the show she got a call from her fan saying "YOU BITCH, YOU EXAGGERATE THINGS FOR DRAMATIC EFFECT, ALL THE DAMN TIME, I'M SICK OF YOUR SHIT, YOU JUST LOST A-" Cut off, As you know, I make mistakes.....
One of those fires was right across a canyon from my house. Shit's scary.
Pray harder, Rick, maybe God will make up for the fact that you gutted your own fire departments.
they need to stop praying so that god will cry and his tears will land on the fire.
they need to stop praying so that god will cry and his tears will land on the fire.
You're right, we need to torture God - everyone stop praying immediately!
Don't worry i will fight this with my Garden hose! I got a bucket of water if it goes out of hand.
We sweds will put this fire out.
