[release]POLICE have cancelled a Justin Bieber concert on Sydney Harbour this morning concerned for fans' safety after reports of girls fainting.
The 16-year-old was meant to sing three songs in front of the Overseas Passenger Terminal on Channel 7's Sunrise program this morning in what would have been his only Australian public performance.
Thousands of teenagers camped out overnight at Sydney's Circular Quay to watch the Canadian pop sensation but they were forced to leave after ten teenagers were hurt in a crush towards the stage.
Police said they were worried about the welfare of all the young people at the scene and called off the gig.
Channel Seven reported at least ten girls fainted, with paramedics forced to rescue them from the hysterical mass, which reportedly broke barriers.
Sunrise entertainment reporter Fifi Box said many of the teenagers had gone to the concert without their parents.
"They kept being told to stay away from the stage, but every time they stepped near the stage, they were swamping it."
Presenter Simon Reed said many girls at Circular Quay had become distressed.
"There were a number of surges and of course these poor girls at the from suffered the worst, a number of girls were quite distressed," Reed said.
"The crowd was warned to relax, they didn't head these warnings and at 5am this morning police had to cancel the concert"
After the concert was scrapped the fans moved to Martin Place, surrounding the Channel 7 studios.
The public order and riot squad was called in to try to control the crowd, estimated to be at least 7000.
Presenter Grant Denyer said he had never seen anything like it.
"They are in an absolute frenzy, they have come from all over Australia, they have come a long way and they are not going home."
"There are literally thousands of them here at Martin Place, police are trying to hold them back from the glass around the building.
"I'm a small guy, only five foot five - if I step down those stairs, it's goodnight Australia," Denyer said.
They were soon rewarded as Bieber arrived at the studio to sing to the huge crowd. Approaching the window of Channel 7's studio Bieber said: "These are such amazing scenes, I'm really so glad I could come."
"Thank you for all your support, I'm so sorry it got out of control, we don't want anybody to get hurt."
The crowd screamed as the teen sensation sang Baby inside the studio.
Holed up in his hotel room earlier this morning, Bieber t took to his Twitter page saying: "I love my fans...I love it here in Australia...and I want to sing.
"I WANT TO MAKE THIS CLEAR...I DONT CANCEL...I WOKE UP THIS MORNING TO THE POLICE CANCELING THE SHOW FOR SAFETY REASONS.
"I love my fans....and I am just as disappointed as everyone else with the news from this morning. I want to sing for my fans."
Sunrise presenter Melissa Doyle told the breakfast program too many girls had gone to the concert without parents.
On air David Koch defended Sunrise's handling of the situation.
"We hired the best in the business, we took advice from them, we had security, we had police, we had the same security team that did the Big Day out, we did everything" Koch said.
"We've had Pink, we've had the Pussycat dolls, we've had INXS, we have never seen anything like this"
"Your daughter may have been injured or died down there, we are not going to cop that responsibility."[/release]

Why was anyone excited at a Justin Beiber concert? This guy is honestly not attractive, and he's not good at singing, and I like the genre.
Australia is going to end up bannign something for the better this time!
