It appears that The Simpsons has reached a point of no return, as a Fox executive revealed to The Wrap that even if the voice actors agree to take a substantial pay cut, the series will come to an end next year.
While this is certainly terrible news for The Simpsons’ many fans (even if you don’t watch it now, you did at one time – so you’re still a fan), Fox also noted that if no agreement can be made between the studio and its voice cast, The Simpsons will come to an end this year.
In an attempt to save the series from an immediate cancelation, many of the producers have already agreed to take a pay cut, to help trim the budget. Unfortunately, the major sticking point for the studio is the voice actors.
Fox TV has asked each of voice actors to cut their salaries from the current $440,000 per episode down to $250,000 per episode. The voice actors have been given until Friday to decide.
In a sense, Fox TV is asking the actors to take such a drastic put cut in order to be able to produce one final season of the long-running series. According to the studio, The Simpsons is in no way financially viable in its current form, and even the overall 30% decrease in productions costs that the studio is looking for will not save it – though, it will allow them to continue for one more year.
Perhaps everyone is stuck between a rock and a hard place. FOX undoubtedly cannot forget that The Simpsons saved the network from going under 23 years ago, and is trying to make things work the best they can – especially since the series isn’t performing as it once was. As for the actors, they certainly do deserve to be financially rewarded for playing a part in the success of the series.
Of course, all of that now is a moot point. With the actors having to decide whether or not to get paid 30% less next year or not at all, it’s not too difficult to figure out what they’ll decide – if only for the memories.
And with a final season, it does present the perfect opportunity for some amazing things to happen. With so many wonderful writers playing a part in the series over the years, one cannot help but believe that many would like to return to bid The Simpsons farewell.
Well...it's kinda sad although the new episodes were crap and weren't funny anymore.
Fucking hell it's been so long since I've even watched an episode of this. Hopefully the final episode will at least be worth watching. But I'll probably just end up forgetting to watch it yeaaaa
It lived a very good and long life. Quit while your still the first episode on animation domination? Well not really quit, but cancelled. I loved that show.
Simpsons has been something of a series that has always existed for me, I mean it was created before I even was born. I will truly miss it if it really gets cancelled.
Damnit, cancel it if you will, but at least allow them a proper final episode.
This is the end of a legacy
Despite the Facepunch bandwagon of "new ones are shit fuck matt groening", I did enjoy watching the episodes and found them entertaining. Shame it's getting cancelled
Rest in piece
It's going to be weird to have it gone.
It's been around for my entire life and I've watched it for as long as I can remember.
Time for a memorial marathon. Maybe now I'll be able to catch up with every episode.
To be honest it wasn't really funny anymore so much i get the feeling the writers were running out of idea's so it's probably for the best for it to go out while it was still strong.
its not like they have made anything good for seasons now...
Fucking finally, it should have been canceled about a decade ago.
should have ended with a movie
well we still have futurama
This is like the greediest shit I've ever heard.
The network probably makes a kajillion dollars off the show.
The voice actors make FOUR HUNDRED THOUSAND dollars an episode, in other words ~11x what a middle class person makes in a year.
I hope something amazing happens to end the show with a big bang!
Millhouse die already.
The Simpsons stopped being funny a really long time ago. About time they gave it a mercy killing, time to get some fresh material out there.
Now if family guy could just get cancelled...
If Futurama also gets cancelled I will cry so horribly

It's already been renewed for a season next year and in 2013, I doubt it's getting cancelled any time soon.
Should've died long ago.
Long live South Park!!
Might have gone downhill but it's still sad to see such a longstanding fixture of my childhood going away.
Mebby a cameo of the all the other Animation Domination show casts and Futurama just for the hell of it. (Family guy, Cleveland show, American Dad)

I always find comments like this funny, not just about The Simpsons, but about every show that was cancelled after it 'stopped being good a long time ago'. If it had been cancelled before it started to get worse then everyone would be mad because they cancelled a perfectly good show.
It confuses me.
Long live South Park!!
South Park is on its way out too
The Simpsons will live on as a cultural icon, but its time has passed. It's outstayed its welcome, somewhat in a good way, but it's not engaging anymore.
Fox is pretty much cutting the only thing that still gives them audience, Futurama and most of their series are just plain bad
There are several things extremely wrong with this post.
If Futurama also gets cancelled I will cry so horribly
so did you cry horribly back in 2003

That's why I'm worried about Arrested Development coming back.
