The UN official said the plan for a 2,500-strong intervention force was at an advanced stage, although it has yet to be approved by the Security Council.
The troops would be added to Monusco, the UN's existing DRC peacekeeping mission, mandated to protect civilians.
The new brigades would be tasked with preventing rebels from seizing territory, and weakening them through targeted operations.
That's going to be one hell of an angry letter.
Isn't this really long overdue?
Well they've had troops in the country for 13 years protecting civilians but now they're actively taking a side in the conflict
I didn't know they U.N. (the west) gave a shit about Africa? So there are resources there?

Good God, the entirety of the UN isn't this evil disguised corporation that acts solely to get access to the finest oil and precious metals around. Once in a blue fucking moon they take an action to prevent deaths, not cause them.
Fuck yeah. Peacekeepers who are actually being useful and going offensive on the rebels for once.

The UN is made up of more than the US, you know.

The U.N. is composed of 193 countries from all around the globe (i.e. most of the world) you ignorant spanner.

and they all want the resources of Africa :v:
Honestly, I feel like one of the main reasons people always view the U.N. as useless is because their gear isn't quite up to date.
I feel like if their transportation/weapons/armour were up to par with modern standards, it'd be easier for them to coordinate with local forces to be more effective. Every time I see a picture of U.N. Peacekeepers they're still using steel helmets from the Cold War and APC's from the 70's.

This is like saying that having a newer car will make you a better lawyer.
Well. The reason the UN Peacekeepers are kind of hard to coordinate, is that most damn well all of them speak a different language.

Resources for the delicious zerg.

Even the nations of Africa itself are plotting a conspiracy to mine the resources of Africa, presumably.
