NSW Attorney General Greg Smith said the aim of the program was to "stop children at risk becoming criminals". Police will be able to refer young people who have come into contact with them three times and schools will be able to refer students six months after the program begins. Teachers will be able to refer kids who are delving into drugs and alcohol, hanging around with the wrong crowd or not turning up to school. The individuals will then be offered a voluntary spot in the program. "These children will be told very clearly that you've got two choices," Family and Community Services Minister Pru Goward told reporters in Sydney on Wednesday. "You either join this program when we offer it to you or you go on your merry way until it's too late and you get captured by the juvenile justice program."[/QUOTE]
It sounds like a great idea but I'm not sure if it's going to work. It would be great if it does though.
