Toyota Motor Corp. (7203)’s Scion line, a U.S. experiment intended to win over young buyers with idiosyncratic designs and low prices, will overhaul its lineup amid fading sales as the brand reaches adolescence. Beginning in 2015, 12 years after Scion’s establishment as Toyota’s third U.S. brand, the company will introduce the first of three new vehicles, Doug Murtha, vice president of Scion sales, said yesterday in an interview at the New York International Auto Show. While Scion will continue to offer about five different models, Murtha declined to say which current products will be discontinued.
http://www.businessweek.com/news/2014-04-16/toyota-plans-scion-line-overhaul-as-youth-brand-hits-adolescence
Calling it now, the iQ's going on the chopping block to be replaced with something that can more equally rival the newer Mini Cooper, but smaller. Not actually calling that. I read that on some automotive website. The fact that Mazda's providing them with a Mazda2 chassis, however, reinforces that. It's marginally larger than the iQ, and it's still in the subcompact class. As long as they can make something that doesn't look like an xD that's gone through a horizontal crusher, they might actually have a compelling product.
The 86 was the only good thing that came out of the brand. The xb and such were complete shit.

Everything was either too boxy, or too much like something else in the line but smooshed. Also, they used those horrible CVTs. I thought BMW/MINI taught the world a lesson back in 2002, but I guess not.
The 86 was the only good thing that came out of the brand. Why do they make us bolt one onto it ourselves? Actually, the answer to that is obvious; it's so the Toyobaru doesn't compete with the STI.

It's supposed to be coming to market in the 2016 model year, and if it's anything like the one they already have, it'll be pretty beastly.
The scion XB is a best seller among old people because it is so easy to get in and out of. It's seats are very high off the ground.
I have an xa and it works fine for what it is. The gas mileage is pretty decent, which is really useful because I travel like 50 miles a day four times a week.
"The goal was to create an authentic rear-wheel drive sports car with compelling style, exceptionally balanced performance and handling, flexible utility and surprising MPG."
No one particularly complains of the Miata's lack of power and with its 1200kg weight it falls into a similar class.

For a naturally aspirated 2.0L street car it's very powerful.

And speed isn't everything. If you want to make it faster, mount a supercharger yourself. Not everyone wants to be wheel-spinning everywhere.
I've considered throwing a supercharger into my Cooper, but I'd be afraid it'd just kill the CVT.
I have the xD and it's basically a clown car. When the 86/Scion/BRZ came out I was jumping for joy because it means MAYBE Toyota has realized how bland/boring/suckish they've been in their design of cars for the past 10 years.
I sat in an IQ at the Chicago Auto Show. For the same price as a FIAT 500, you get a more cramped shitbox with seats that feel like they're made of cardboard and toilet paper.
Good. Everything but the FR-S needs to be canned. Maybe people are finally figuring out that under the skin they're all just lame Camrys.
You guys do realise the 86/FRS/BRZ, when they made the FA20, they signed an agreement to never raise power for a certain time limit (i believe 3 years) because Subaru has a working FA20 Engine with a Turbo, and Toyota was scared they couldnt develop anything in that ammount of time. So in like 2015 - 2016, they will most likely be a BRZ STI, since the engine is literally already done and used in a few Subaru Cars.
i mean i'm not a car person at all, but i really like how the 2011 scion tc looks

Like the 86 before it, it's supposed to be a driver's car, very much like a miata.
i mean i'm not a car person at all, but i really like how the 2011 scion tc looks
Literally a girl car
Literally a girl car
so.. it has a vagina??
The Toyobaru is seriously a pretty car though, I see three or four a week and they're just mmmmmmmmm
I've never owned a car that was made in this millennium :v: I love lookin at them tho
And speed isn't everything. If you want to make it faster, mount a supercharger yourself. Like the 86 before it, it's supposed to be a driver's car, very much like a miata.
The thing is, it's a bit too expensive for what it is. I mean, for more or less a thousand dollars more you can get an STI.
The scion XB is a best seller among old people because it is so easy to get in and out of. It's seats are very high off the ground.
Also it's got so much rear legroom, I sat in one at a car show when they were new and boy was I surprised

I'd have one right now

Good. The XB is pretty much the definition of a dull econobox, and the iQ is a slightly less terrible Smart Fortwo.
IIRC the point of the FT86 was to make a miata-like small fun sports coupe, not compete on raw speed.
It's a great car but it's really expensive (~$25k) for what get. A convertible Miata starts at ~$23k, and a V6 Mustang starts at ~$22k. The Miata is more reliable (and a convertible) and the Mustang is more powerful. When you get into the used car market, the FR-S runs into really stiff competition like S2000 and Mustang GT.
