Lloyds Bank has said it will not charge Muslim customers if they go into their overdrafts. The bank sent out a booklet this month explaining changes to its personal banking services, including one that would allow Muslims to avoid overdraft charges, The Telegraph reported. The document stated: “We are removing the Monthly OverdraftManagement Fee of £6 from our Islamic Account, Islamic Student Account and Islamic Graduate Account. So, if you use an Unplanned Overdraft on these accounts there won’t be any charges.”
Seems like Lloyds are getting quite a grilling for this. So because I'm not muslim I'm getting charged >:( this doesn't seem at all fair!
Its based around the dumb Sharia idea that Muslims are not allowed to receive/pay interest. Even so, its discriminating against other customers in their attempt to attract a specific group. If I ever do set up a overdraft with Lloyds though, I'll make sure to note myself down as Muslim.
I don't want to be rude or anything but what's with the UK suddenly adapting Muslim/Sharia law into society?
Its things like this that help breed hatred and create the 'us and them' mentality. Honestly I'm sick of it and find myself becoming more anti-Muslim by the day, but I know its mostly not their fault, its more the governments fault for being scared to treat them the same as everyone else because they might get offended. I predict a really nasty backlash if things like this continue happening.
I don't want to be rude or anything but what's with the UK suddenly adapting Muslim/Sharia law into society?
Brings in Muslims who are willing to work for cheaper salaries, that means big profits for corporations, and less unhappy politicians
Brings in Muslims who are willing to work for cheaper salaries, that means big profits for corporations, and less unhappy politicians
Yeah but it seems like if this influence keeps going it will soon leak into politics who could try to adapt some of this shit I mean that may be far-fetched by Sharia law is horrible
I don't want to be rude or anything but what's with the UK suddenly adapting Muslim/Sharia law into society?
it's not really there was a dailymail article posted that everyone here tore apart because the headline was down-right false and then this isn't anything to do with law or society it's just a bank trying to make a quick buck and they're getting slammed for it so who cares
it makes me laugh that, whenever a private business makes a discriminatory law towards minorities it's always 'WOW IT'S THEIR RIGHT AS A PRIVATE BUSINESS' but whenever they make a law that's positive towards a minority group it's like wow what the fuck is this sharia bullshit
Can't anybody apply for the account tho? Yeah, anybody can, you are all knee jerk reactionary fuckwits.
However, a spokesman told The Telegraph that anyone can open an Islamic account, regardless of whether they are a Muslim or not.
The "Muslim" accounts are heavily disadvantaged because you can't have interest on them, so they are trying to make them appealing by removing fees. If it tickles your fancy, nothing stops you from going and opening such an account, they won't even ask you if you are actually Muslim, you just ask for a service to and get it. Spoilers: (It still wouldn't be worth it for you in most cases!) This is prime example of xenophobic shits trying to stir unrest over non-existing discrimination and the bunch of you are kinda joining the trend. Be ashamed.
Yeah but it seems like if this influence keeps going it will soon leak into politics who could try to adapt some of this shit I mean that may be far-fetched by Sharia law is horrible
I'm willing to bet there would be civil unrest and a military coup it Sharia Law was enacted
If I were a bank owner I wouldn't give 2 shits about your religion, you'll follow the same fucking rules as everybody else does.
If you have the option to allow a group of people do business with you by changing a few rules in one of your schemes why wouldn't you?
If you have the option to allow a group of people do business with you by changing a few rules in one of your schemes why wouldn't you?
Absolutely can't blame a business for trying to expand it's customer base, but they could have been way less fucking idiotic. Just change the rules for everyone not just one minority, problem solved.
Absolutely can't blame a business for trying to expand it's customer base, but they could have been way less fucking idiotic. Just change the rules for everyone not just one minority, problem solved.
but most people want interest on their accounts...
If you have the option to allow a group of people do business with you by changing a few rules in one of your schemes why wouldn't you?
I'm not 100% sure, but I'm fairly certain this falls under discrimination/unfair treatment making it illegal.
I'm not 100% sure, but I'm fairly certain this falls under discrimination/unfair treatment making it illegal.
In the wording? Can be argued that way yeah; but Lloyds allow anyone to apply for a "Islamic Account". They could of done this a better way by calling them No Fee/Interest accounts instead, but I assume they wanted to gain the attention of the Muslim community in this manner to make them aware of it.

Doesn't seem that bad. Just a stupid way of naming it.
fuck this im becoming a muslim
So they can't call the investor account an investor account anymore because non-investors might feel discriminated against?
Can I go make the "White mans account plan"? How about "Jedi Account"? The wording is very important, its principle and discouraging towards other groups. I shouldn't have to claim I'm a Muslim or apply to a Islamic system when naming it a neutral system would appease both parties. A investor is someone who invests, Islamic/Muslim is completely different, important and religious lifestyle.
I can buy anything for free cause Allah says so. I spoke to him myself, and I have Mohammad to back me up.

White Man's account is something else because in ideal world, there should be no ties between your race/sex and your financial profile. Muslims are limited in their financial options by their principles, so it warrants recognition. They asked for account without other BENEFITS, and to compensate for giving them otherwise shittier deal than to everyone else, the bank has decided to cut some fees.
Yes, and you'll have to make an account for every single type of ethnicity, religion and philosophy while you're at it; as you are favoring one group of people with an account over another.
