Starter level subreddit for beginners.
I've always heard about Reddit and the bashing it gets along with the type of people who go on there. I'm glad I've heard a more neutral view on it. The ratings it gets doesn't surprise me though.
What the person in the video mentioned about posts which have been about for a while having a weight on them to give new posts more of a chance is really clever idea.
Even with all this, I'm still not up for going on that website, every time I think of Reddit, I think of this person on my Facebook who goes on there religiously, and posts all the shit from there (mainly Pokemon) so that's keeping me from going there.
I can only say it again, reddit is great and post quality depends on what subreddit you go to.
r/circlejerk is the only good reddit.
This video is actually pretty good and I can tell the guy knows what he's talking about since he said "funny image captions" and not "memes".
Still not going to bother with Reddit, though. My getting-ridiculously-huge list of RSS subscriptions keeps me as updated as I need to be on stuff, and there are other communities I go to for discussion that i like more than Reddit's (like this one ).
the problem with reddit is that it's so set on becoming the be and end all hub for all discussion and so intent on fostering a happy community where everything is accepted that it's just become a haven for cunts
Oh and r/gifsound.
That place is amazing for people who love gifs.

Also the SFW Porn Network, r/askscience, r/worldnews, r/science, r/colorizedhistory, etc.
There's a handful of really good subreddits, just none of them are the default ones; you gotta go searching.
Reddit is good for news and (usually) new content but I really don't like the community. I do go on Reddit and circlejerks happen a lot. If you don't make some witty or hilarious reply your post also gets buried so that's another down side.
It's not really good for real discussions but if you want to see images of cats and selective news then it's not bad.
Reddit is a fairly alright idea that's pretty much ruined by trying to appeal to everyone or form a "community" within reddit, which by design feeds off the rest of the internet, and by having a voting system that means any shmuck can push down stuff they don't agree with to the point where it's just not even visible to most users, eliminating any semblance of discussion or argument
it's fine if you use it as a sort of RSS/content aggregator though
I browse Reddit frequently, besides the default subreddits i got a few TV show subreddits i am subscribed to and its not at all. I can spend quite some time just lurking around.
Checking reddit.com is like reading conspiracy blogs, hyperpartisan liberal blogs, and cat magazines.
smaller subreddits usually have some good discussion going
a lot of the smaller subreddits are pretty much self contained communities; quality, posting habits and users differ wildly from subreddit to subreddit
"If you only like politics, funny image captions or sports"
dota 2 and starcraft, perfect

ha
The comment system is a total cluster fuck, the whole upvoting/downvoting thing is literally a circle jerk, people still spout their "sick maymays" all the time there, it's just in general an awful site save for a few things like getting news and etc.
The best thing to do for anyone who uses reddit is to automatically just unsubscribe to the default subreddits, because they are default everyone uses them, and thus posts are usually complete shit and mods think of themselves as gods.
Instantly moving to non-native subreddits and reddit is exponentially more amazing.
Along with that, I wish he did a video on the problem with reddit, and how easy it is to game the system.
I'm sorry but I slighty like reddit....
Still prefer facepunch...but reddit it ok
I'm Sorry
I really don't like reddit, its move a circlejerk than FP and /v/

Depends which subreddit you're browsing.
Reddit is an awesome community. However, if you go into the shitty subreddits then don't be surprised. A few of the good ones off the top of my head are /Games, /TrueAskReddit or /AskReddit, /AskScience, /programming, /News and /Worldnews, /Aww and there are thousands more that can appeal to your own personal interests.
Some of the smaller subreddits are fine, but for the most part Reddit is an awful community that doesn't allow people to voice your opinions.
If you aren't atheist or libertarian your opinion is immediately discarded.
A relatively informative video that is completely shit on because it was posted in an area where people have already sworn allegiance to other forums
Also the SFW Porn Network, r/askscience, r/worldnews, r/science, r/colorizedhistory, etc.

r/worldnews is like SH on circlejerk super-steroids where America is responsible for everything wrong in the world and Muslims are subhuman
r/science is the one of the worst subreddits. People just link articles without reading them.
r/atheism and r/gaming AVOID AT ALL COSTS
here's a tip: unfollow/unsub from all the basic subreddits that you're automatically added to when you make an account and you get rid of and successfully ignore 99% of memes and stupidity.

checking /r/all is doing that
making an account and checking your front page is reading a hub of psychology articles, philosophical discussions, various excellent photographs, and historical/scientific questions.
that is what my front page looks like. it has a picture of mountains in kazakhstan, a map of the geographic range of pigeons, a cinemagraph of iguaca falls, a tyrion lannister quote, a documentary on pumping iron, a chinese art piece, an explanation of the viewpoints of those against global warming, a study on psychedelics and mental health, an article on a van gogh painting found in an attic, a nighttime picture of Colorado, some motivational comics, and a philosophical discussion on how asserting that emotion exists because we can see it in our brain may not be accurate.
it's the difference between skimming the comic section of the sunday newspaper and spending an hour in a library.
