The following is a chat log I had with Gateway Tech Support. (Don't ask why I own a Gateway.)
Anoop_GWSI162 joined the incident. Anoop_GWSI162 says: Welcome to Gateway Chat. My name and badge number are Anoop_GWSI162. I am looking at your account and the information you submitted. I will begin troubleshooting with you in just a moment. Anoop_GWSI162 says: Thank you for being online, I really appreciate it. Ryan says: No, problem. Anoop_GWSI162 says: May I confirm the serial number as ----------- ? Ryan says: Yes Anoop_GWSI162 says: Ryan, I have verified that the Gateway computer is not covered under warranty. May I know the issue in detail? Ryan says: I just want to know if my motherboard will support an intel i7 processor. Ryan says: Is there anyway for you to tell? Anoop_GWSI162 says: Ryan, as I understand that you need to know whether your system will support windows 7 operating system or not, is that right? Ryan says: No.. Ryan says: Do you know what a processor is? Anoop_GWSI162 says: Ryan, to install windows 7 operating system on the system it needs to meet some basisc hardware requirements, so the best option I suggest you is check the Hardware compactability for the system with windows 7 in the microsoft website, I will provide you the Motherboard information . Anoop_GWSI162 says: May I place on hold for couple of minutes, while I do a quick research on this issue? Ryan says: Wait, are you serious? Ryan says: You don't know how bad I am -headdesk-ing right now. Ryan says: How'd you even get a job in technical support? Anoop_GWSI162 says: Ryan, please note the motherboard specification for the system at the below link. Anoop_GWSI162 sent a link to [http://support.gateway.com/s/Mobile/Q106/Bishop/4001189R/4001189Rsp4.shtml] Ryan says: THANK YOU Ryan says: I'll admit, I wasn't sure if you would be able to do it for a second there. Anoop_GWSI162 says: You can check the compactability for the system with windiows 7 in the microsft website and check the compactabily. Anoop_GWSI162 says: Changing the Operating System may cause driver conflicts. You have the option of upgrading or changing your Operating System at your own discretion. We are not recomment any operating system changes.
Anoop_GWSI162 says: We have another department named Answers by Gateway(ABG). You can contact them for better assistance of this issue.
You can contact ABG using this phone number :800-237-6483.(Hours: 24 hrs. x 7 days / week), please rember that it is a paid service. Ryan says: For the record, I have Windows 7 already. I just wanted to know if it was compatible with a particular CPU. Anoop_GWSI162 says: Based on the information provided, your current issue appears to be out of my scope of support. Unfortunately, I do not have the resources needed to assist you with this. To receive the best support, I would suggest contacting Answers By Gateway who are experts in handling out of scope issues. Ryan says: Also, one day I'll get a job where you work, and become your boss. Then I'll fire you. Anoop_GWSI162 says: Please contact answers by gateway for further assistance with this issue. They will help you to fix this issue. Sorry for the inconvenience.
Ryan says: BYE Review: I don't want to get someone in trouble or anything, but the tech support agent I got was pretty useless. He/she literally could not tell the difference between an i7 Processor and Windows 7. I mean WTF?
You could just have asked facepunch?
Jesus, reading that made me cringe.
You could just have asked facepunch?
Thats a good one...
People who buy gateway shit don't swap their own CPU, and if they were capable of doing a task that "hard", they can google the motherboard and check.
lol Gateway
It looked automated...
You realize that was a bot and not an agent right?
oh man, Gateway still exists? That and Compaq are basically the Kirkland Signature of the PC market. [sp]Kirkland Signature is a company that specializes in putting out generics [/sp]
Wow...what they hire mc donalds previous workers? :/
Run dxdiag. Check motherboard. Google motherboard. Okay you're done. Not so hard, is it?
No, problem.
You realize that was a bot and not an agent right?
Oh God, I sure hope it was a bot. And I planned on asking Facepunch after I found out what kind of MoBo I actually had.
I have a Gateway and it fatally overheated my GPU, thanks a fucking lot for giving me a computer that can't handle my graphics card with killing itself Gatway! [editline]03:05PM[/editline]
Kirkland Signature is a company that specializes in putting out generics
Doesn't Kirkland have to do with Costco?
Ok, so is my Mobo i7 compatible? Edit: Actually, by looking at some of the specifications, I am not sure that I want to use this motherboard.
I didn't like them because their boxes look like cows.
Your motherboard won't support anything close to an i7 considering that A: It's a laptop motherboard, And B: it's an AMD motherboard.
Old Gateways are awesome
Holy shit. Also posting using a Gateway. Which has been reliable for the past 3 years. :smug:
I am using a Gateway T-1413H and , oh wait... NM...
Don't worry man, I wouldn't but a gateway either.
it was a BOT.
I just realized, that if any of my friends were here, they would not know what is so aggravating about this dipshit.
I'm not sure who's stupider, the Gateway Agent (who wasn't even a human technician) or the OP for thinking he can willy-nilly switch to an i7.
i have a gateway. scince like 2008 i belive. it still runs and its a laptop
This. And it runs Windows 7 perfectly well, too.
Even I could do a better job than her.
Her?
People who buy gateway shit don't swap their own CPU, and if they were capable of doing a task that "hard", they can google the motherboard and check.
I did. T5400->T9300 Got me a nice overall machine I'm still using to date. I've moved 4 times in the last two years and have cramped quarters, a desktop wouldn't work for me right now.
