• Photography turning into a "fad"?

It seems to me that photography has turned into a fad now. If you go to an American school then I think you know what I mean. A lot of people are getting these DSLR cameras and even putting water marks on their pictures when they upload it to the mother of all quality killing services, Facebook photos. I was into photography WAY before this fad seemed to come into my social group. I just couldn't be one of the 'starters' of it because I didn't have money for a camera... Anybody else experience the same? If I am not mistaken it is happening with the UK too seeing as I have a lot of real life friends in England (I am visiting) it seems just as abundant as America, if not worse.
where have you been?
Yeah, mostly girls do it
Whats wrong with people taking pictures ?
Thank hipsters... they ruin everything
Yeah, mostly girls do it
Girls who THINK they can be "artistic" by making a crappy picture black and white and changing the contrast. :downs:
The only thing I hate more then fads is people who say "I was into that before it was cool"
If you have a camera you are automatically a photographer. It is the rules.
Over here in Germany most people only use their cameras to do pictures of themselves or friends. They don't care about watermarks, they just want them for the memories (the pictures). Only me and a friend of mine really do photography, although we don't upload most of our stuff because we try to improve.
Nah, it augments the % of people doing an activity, and this augmentation also rises the people with possible talents, and the chances that actual artists will get into it. It's a goog thing.
Nothing is wrong with people taking pictures. But it is getting a bit ridiculous now that TONS of people all have these 300 dollar cameras going around and doing what they said, taking from a 'slightly' atristic angle. most likely zoomed in on a small object, focused and then change contrast. and I totally was into it before people started making it a common thing... sometimes its just true damnit! I see a balance between guys and girls do it. except the guys tend to do it MUCH better.
Girls who THINK they can be "artistic" by making a crappy picture black and white and changing the contrast. :downs:
Don't forget the slight 45 degrees angle. Also
I did it before you guys I'm way better
Atleast people are starting to use their brains to do something creative.
I'm pretty sure plenty of people were into photography back when we had to use film. Usually, the pictures I see that were taken with point-and-shoot cameras at an awkward angle while fully zoomed in were taken by people who don't refer to themselves as "photographers."
So what's the deal? Who gives a shit if their photos aren't any good? Maybe it's a stepping point into more people becoming real photographers. Hell not everyone is an instant prodigy. Although I absolutely hate the style modern teenagers apply to every single photo. It'd be good if it wasn't so damn overused. In fact it should motivate you to become better than the average.

A bunch of investors thought that it was a gold mine, so they started investing in shitty studios like crazy. but eventually, more indie developpers get signed or financed to start their own studio because of that trend. The number of persons getting into something is never a bad thing, if you are a talented fellow, it will only make your talent shine more. Also, getting sexist? :v:
I've noticed this a lot actually, mainly with girls. Although the best photographer I know personally is a guy. And it's hard to imagine you were too into photography before everyone it you didn't even have your own camera
fight da power
I have seen this somewhere... [editline]10:12PM[/editline] mah automerge D:<
I bet there was a caveman back in the day... "Dammit Grog, I liked it better when I was the only one drawing buffalo on the wall. Now all these girls are drawing unicorns and shit, and they using berry juice to add color! What's wrong with just using a piece of burnt wood and drawing in black and white like me?"
fight da power Just because it's popular doesn't mean you should stop. In fact it should motivate you to become better than the average.
I am better than average but I hate being grouped together with these people who think they are 'the shit' at taking photographic pictures. it ENRAGES ME! I am trying to explain the way my group of peers tends to act is basically, you call yourself a photographer, you are one. You are a good one, you are a bad or just plain HORRIBLE one. you are all photographers. I don't like that! uugh maybe its just me.
I think you're mixing up photography with taking pictures. DSLR are cheap now, even retards know that a DSLR is better than a compact camera. So they get a DSLR. DSLR pictures =/= photography. You can do photography with your mobile phone if you want. Even though I understand where you're coming from it's also retarded to think that photography is being shat on just because of know-nothings chose a higher quality equipment to take their family snapshots and profile pictures with. isn't it just good? A lot of people have gotten interested in photography thanks to it.

But I never made it a big deal like put watermarks on it. it was just an unintentional hobby but people told me I was good and should go for it. I was interested and tinkered around with the camera every now and then when he would let me but I never was able to get into it as fast as some of these people I know.
Every teen think himself an artist.
They take pictures of themselves pouting, make it black and white, and fuck with the contrast. Every day. So yeah they're getting use out of their cameras. [editline]09:20PM[/editline] Well it's the shit to do anyway, since Facebook is like the hook up club for people now.
Thank hipsters... they ruin everything
I'm sure the photography "fad" has existed before hipsters rose above emos in today culture. Also, not everyone who buys into the photography "fad" (someone who does it because it makes them "cool," dosen't know shit about photography etc.) are hipsters.
I have noticed this, I myself actually work as a photographer, I've been taking pictures since I was a kid. The one thing I hate is when people come up to me and start bragging about their extremely expensive camera and how it makes them a professional photographer. I've been working in the photography business for two years (earning money from it), I've had a few exhibitions. Even then I don't consider myself a professional!
Thank hipsters... they ruin everything
what do hipsters have to do with photography?
I wish I had an expensive camera so I could boast my artistic skills.

so deep. Is the glass 3/4s full? Or 1/4th empty? So much wisdom man.
