LOS ANGELES (AP) — Eric Lawson, who portrayed the rugged Marlboro man in cigarette ads during the late 1970s, has died. He was 72. Lawson died Jan. 10 at his home in San Luis Obispo of respiratory failure due to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, or COPD, his wife, Susan Lawson said Sunday.
http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2014/01/26/ex-marlboro-man-dies/4926469/
Whoda thunk
Died doing what he loved.
Going out at 72 ain't half bad all things considered.
Died doing what he loved.
Not breathing?
Lawson was also survived by six children, 18 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
well id say its bunk that cigarettes can cause male infertility and erectile dysfunction, that being said, one has to wonder how long he would have lived if he hadn't smoked, also how lucky is he to not have died of any form of cancer
Oh, was afraid it was this guy He's had it rough enough, doesn't need to die prematurely...
Say no to tobacco
The one thing that really should be looked at are the other two models listed in the article. If you look at the main guy, and the other two, they all three died of different diseases, but all from the same source. If this isn't an eye-opener about smoking, I do not know what is.
Died doing what he loved.
A true american hero. Cowboy hero at that.
I smoke but only because I believe in 50 years from now they should have proper cures for these diseases.
I don't mind smokers, it's their own choice and all, but that got to be the stupidest thing I've heard said about smoking for years. Wouldn't you be happier being healthy and not need treatment 50 years from now?
My grandad died of COPD on new year's day this year and he was 81. Weird how a lot of smokers don't actually die very young.
I will quit smoking when this retarded country properly allows the sale of electronic smoking products. I already quit smoking for over two months last year while trying out e-cigs, I'm just too lazy to order more liquids from the UK all the time.
My grandad died of COPD on new year's day this year and he was 81. Very few young people get lung cancer from smoking, afaik. That's also why I intend to quit at least before I turn 30.
Tobacco is wacko

Live by the sword
have you ever tried smoking?
Yep. I understand why people smoke, but his reasoning on the whole it-being-dangerous thing is absurdly dumb.
Died doing what he loved.
In all seriousness, if I was a smoker then I'd probably want to die from lung cancer. Like, I'd rather live a good happy life doing/eating/drinking/smoking and die painfully, rather than live a boring healthy life and die peacefully (and probably alone in my case.) In other words, you live by the cig, you die by the cig.

You can eat, drink without having to smoke or else we'd all be dead by now. Also, I'm sure you'd prefer to die die peacefully rather than stuck in a hospice shitting yourself cause your lung cancer spread to your ass or something.
Yep. I understand why people smoke, but his reasoning on the whole it-being-dangerous thing is absurdly dumb.
Want to explain how? It is reasonable to assume that the complications that smoking brings about will be gone within his lifetime, and most smokers live their life happy and healthy until they get something serious, but "most smokers" haven't had the opportunity to live in the time whats his face will be able to. Anyway, it's definitely not absurdly dumb, you're dumb.

If I like cake, then I wont mind if I die from a jeart attack by eating too much cake. If I like to drink beer, I wouldn't mind dying from whatever beer has or something. Look, one day we're all going to die, and I'll be damned if I spend my life paranoid about death coming to get me. I'd rather just do what I want to do. Life's too short, so fuck everything and have fun, ya dig?
Yeah, life got a lot more boring when they passed that law that made it so people who don't smoke aren't allowed to do anything fun.
But that's not the point I'm trying to make.
I don't smoke, I do sports. Will die young probably...

Hah, I knew this would start a shitshow of people who will defend to their early graves that smoking is fine
I really hope there no longer is any doubt on the horrible diseases smoking can cause. I smoke but only because I believe in 50 years from now they should have proper cures for these diseases.
You're being very optimistic on a whole variety of aspects by saying that.
Hah, I knew this would start a shitshow of people who will defend to their early graves that smoking is fine
I tend to get almost stupidly defensive of my dumbass philosophies.
If I like to drink beer, I wouldn't mind dying from whatever beer has or something.
hahahaah look I understand and respect where you're coming from but you should actually be able to articulate what the risks are before saying they're worth it
[t]http://www.areavip.com.br/wp-content/uploads/2014/01/Eric-Lawson.jpg[/t] I'd probably go off a leg to say he was pretty in-shape, and thats why he survived so long.
