• Shiraki - The Blue Album (Or EP, rather): KG's new Chiptune effort

Over the years I've been making music and playing video games, so I thought I'd intertwine them by making a half assed chiptune album. This short but sweet suite was made I'd say in less than 24 hours over the span.of 3 days, and was entirely unplanned and sporadic. The result is a stream of barely finished tracks. http://www.megaupload.com/?d=BYI943YR The songs were MIDI files made with FL Studio and a Yamaha MM6 used as a midi keyboard, then processed through GXSCC, a program that changes midi sounds into 8-bit synths and drums. Parts I couldn't play were programmed on FL Studio's piano roll, but otherwise stuff that was easier to play then program was played and imported in to FL Studio. End Theme felt like an appropriate ending, before calls of plagiarism I will mention it is the credit theme for Mario Kart 64 (amazing game) Anyways, please listen and enjoy, give feedback if you will. I hope whoever is kind enough to do so enjoys it. There's nothing better than making music people enjoy
silly me, I should have posted a sample! http://soundcloud.com/yamiproject/victory-theme-bonus-track
i think this is really nice, but i dont think you will get much attention making 8-bit tunes unless they are remixes of recent songs lol.
It's amazing, sounds like something Souleye would make!
i think this is really nice, but i dont think you will get much attention making 8-bit tunes unless they are remixes of recent songs lol.
the whole 8bit thing is pretty much a sugar coat for poor midi sound. I've had trouble with playback of sounds on the MM6 (ie lack of any choirs, some melodies dont play etc) so I just used gxscc to make the midi sound better. I personally love the 8-bit sound, others may be not but it kinda appeals to me
My favorite is the Holy King one.
I love you Rad <3
You know what, don't take this the wrong way, but I totally think this would sell millions as a ringtone or something. This is a blast from the past. I think you should add sample of real kids arguing, swearing and with the occasional percussive sound of controllers being hit against heads. Just like the old days.
You know what, don't take thos the wrong way, but that is a poor suggestion.
For some reason the sample you posted is an instant nostalgia trip to when I had a Gameboy Color, even though I've never heard the song before. If you whore yourself out a little, you could easily get this into some kind of indie platformer or adventure game, it's fucking catchy. [editline]3rd January 2012[/editline] Now to see if the rest is as good, downloading. Also now that it's over at least the sample track REALLY needs some kind of outro, didn't like the ending. Fade into kids arguing over whose turn it is to play or something, and this is brilliant. [editline]3rd January 2012[/editline] Yyyyyeah, you should definitely work on your endings.
Fade into kids arguing over whose turn it is to play or something, and this is brilliant.
This would completely ruin all the songs. Wth why do you guys want this?? Also, it's typical that game music/chip tunes loop - hence the abrupt endings.
I'm not saying every song should be like that, but it sould be extremely fitting and make it feel a little bit better, at least if the last song on an album/EP/whatever did it. Having something like that between every song would be annoying, but starting the first song with something that sounds like an old game console booting, like the little pling from a Gameboy, and ending the last song with kids fighting over a controller would be really cool and improve the general quality of the album, at least in my opinion. To please everyone, the intro jingle and outro quarreling with a fade could be put as songs at the start and the end, so people who don't want it can just ignore it.
Maybe I'll work on a full release and incorporate the console booting at the start, idk. This is just a bunch of chiptunes. And the abrupt endings are pretty much masked by the fact that the tracks end and start on the instant, keeping everything flowing together. If you're listening to it in alphabetical order, you're doing it wrong. Use iTunes.
