It's free and plays great, go get it if you haven't already.
dang, guess now's the time to get back into it. Guess that just leaves the translocator, stinger, redeemer and biorifle to get new models. Absolutely adore those map aesthetics though

The Impact Hammer has yet to get a new model yet either.
Personally i hope they bring back some other weapons/add in new ones too over time, i love me some weapon variety.

Anyone know how to play the new characters? Are they something you have to unlock after playing for a bit?
this game is more optimised than most finished AAA titles
Decided to boot it up and have a go at it. Good god its more beautiful than I could imagine, and who'sever remix that is of mekalopolis on the outpost_23 map, it's amazing
Am I the only one who was surprised that characters called each other douchebags and whores?
This isn't out of place for a UT game but I didn't think a game outside of the 90s would do it.
Wow this looks way more finished and further along since when I last saw it
Wow this looks way more finished and further along since when I last saw it
There are still a decent amount of unfinished levels/assets, and theres still alot to be done in terms of development. However, it is further along than it was earlier.
Is the lore, whenever someone is killed a clone of them is spawned?

I know in UT99 it was like a virtual arena the fighters would step into, or at least that's what it showed in the intro.

I could be wrong but I believe it's a lot like the movie Gamer where a person controls other people as avatars except I think they're actual clones of themselves.
I've been following the progress of both this and UE4 for about a year and a half now. The progress the team at Epic and the community have made together is astounding.
In a way, it's almost like Epic got its soul back. The Epic before UT3, Gears, and Cliffy B. was very open and encouraged things like modding and essentially creating games with their engine. Up until recently though, they were very closed. Now, they're extremely open again, to the point where they want the community directly working with them on almost every aspect of their games and even their engine. It's ingenious really, and pretty much everyone wins because of this much of an open cooperation.
I'm a bit wary because a majority of the shares of Epic are owned by Tencent, but if that means Epic can afford things like making their massively impressive engine free for everyone with practically no restrictions, and getting quality content developed for their games at a breakneck pace, then I'm all for it.
As for the game in question, for the love of god go play it. If you liked how UT '99 played, chances are, you'll like how this one plays.

UE4 is top of the line.
UE4 is top of the line.
It very much is, though I would also argue it's more because you have the actual guys behind the engine making the game.
Look at Hatred for instance. It runs on UE4 and is horribly optimized. And I'm sure with UE4 being absolutely free now, we'll have tons of shitty and unoptimized "my first game" projects popping up, like we've had with Unity since Unity 4 hit years back.
Still, the positives easily outweigh the negatives in this scenario, so I can't be too burned if we have one hundred unoptimized shitty bad UE4 games to one well optimized and good UE4 game. It's a winning situation as long as Epic stays this open, and with how much positive feedback they've gotten on practically everything they've been doing since opening up, I don't see them swaying away anytime soon.
this game is more optimised than most finished AAA titles
That makes me feel even worse about my laptop being shit because the game runs mediocrely at best on the lowest settings on the maps that aren't whitebox maps on my computer.
I'd like to fully enjoy the beauty of the game at some point.
but does it have the razor jack
but does it have the razor jack
Not yet, officially. The devs have said in the past the weapon was a bit op and i can see why. Some people have modded one in, though.
Now this looks like a proper evolution from UT2k3/4. UT3 always did feel soulless and bland, and from what I played a few months ago UT4 was already shaping up pretty good. Naturally it seems to of gotten even better.
I hate how every voice in the game is super growly-edgelord and the enforcer is STILL garbage.

Good, they have captured the beauty of the original Unreal Tournament's impeccable voice acting.

No, they haven't. There's a difference between soundy cocky and taunting someone, and trying to speak while deep throating satan's fucking barbed dick.

I haven't played it recently, if it's that bad hopefully it's changed then, but still there's a volume slider for it till then (I hope so).
The voice lines are placeholder from UT2k4

They are using placeholder vocals from UT2k4, they will eventually be replaced with (new) proper vocals in place of the rather growly ones over time. However I believe they want to cover a variety of vocal ranges when they do start adding in new voice overs.
That's just how the nightmare and male alien voicepacks are, given the current player model choices are almost entirely Skarjj and Necris, aside from Malcolm / Taye.
Can't wait for the Juggernaut voices to come back. Or at least something on par if the Jugs return
"TAG EM AND BAG EM!"
How many maps are in the game now? Is everything in the trailer in the game itself right now? I haven't played the game in months but I'll definitely play it again after seeing this.
The voice lines are placeholder from UT2k4
That explains why they never seemed out of place or weird for me, I was so used to them.

There are more than a handful of maps in game right now, however only a select few maps in game are finished at the moment. They usually update the game with new content/fixes every month too, so thats also really cool.
ctf-face is in the game nothing else matters anymore.
