I know there's a stereotype of DJs not doing anything, but this chick is literally just pretending to turn knobs and touch buttons.
jiggling knobs never does anything STOP PRETENDING LIKE THEY DO
What DJ doesnt do this
DJs are the fucking worst. Unless they're producing their own music, just accept the fact that you're playing some shitty club with other people's shitty remixes of shitty songs.

Edit: They're doing more than pressing a button dipshits.

They're basically doing the same thing but making it flashy and cool because its a show
It's like deadmau5 said, all these performers do is go up there and hit the play button, the only difference is whether they're honest enough to admit it and whether they make an effort to put on a cool show instead of just fucking around pretending you're doing stuff.

man how fucking clueless are you
[editline]9th September 2014[/editline]
do you think dj's mix tunes with basslines and shit clashing, do you realise how horrible that shit sounds

Have you ever even used a mixing table in your life? You beatmatch songs, ya don't "match the lows - highs" or whatever you think that DJ'ing is

They are making it flashy but the shows have variation so something is being done and they are mixing their own songs. Sure, a couple songs are sampled but they're sampled in a way that you'd never be able to tell without knowing the source material.

For DJing you should always make sure you are at least not having baselines playing at the same time. There is much more to mixing than getting the timings right for the songs.

Also for all the people saying every DJ just presses play, while that is true for many festival DJs, the people over here, for example, have multiple routines showing this is not the case for everyone.

You use it to take the high- or low-end out of the track you're mixing into you dingus.

nope

i'm completely clueless to how eq'ing and beatmatching goes
[editline]9th September 2014[/editline]
And i'm not saying you have to "match the lows - highs" but you need eq'ing in your mix or it will sound awful, for example 2 tunes with heavy basslines cant be played at once without the lows eq'ed out or it will sound terrible

Some DJ's do cool shit with the monome and make their music live. Madeon for example. (And still only sometimes)
Most just press play, though. And you're all morons, nobody mixes their music live anymore lol, it's all a prerecorded set done in a DAW.
I just watched Bro Safari last weekend, he's a producer first but he was definitely live mixing at the show. Sure he wasn't producing songs in realtime or anything but that is because it isn't possible.
That being said, he was definitely manually mixing in insert effects and eq for transitions and shit, which makes every show unique despite yes, playing the same prepared mix.

Plenty of artists have done just that or very close to that.

There's a difference between those styles of Dj'ing.
As sad as it is most people don't give a shit if the DJ is doing anything. They don't get drugged up or wasted and go to a club to critique the DJ.
Before this massive craze set in my dream was to produce and play electronic music for people, but I've been turned cynical by the current trend. I don't feel that it will last and eventually people will catch on and realise they are paying out the ass to see people do absolutely nothing.
There are some niches coming up slowly and one of those will take over eventually, but at the moment its just easy shit to dance to and it sounds good when you are drunk, which in my eAustralia is really good at being.
Every man and his cat can DJ or call themselves a producer these days and the entire creative process has been dragged out of the big room tracks that people love to listen to. I say this a generalisation, obviously the world still has creative people and talented musicians/producers, it's just easier not to be.
"When everyone's a DJ, no one will be."
That's not fair, she's not just pretending. I saw her actually push at least one button!
I have no idea why people would spend tons of cash to watch Deadmau5 or whomever pretending to push buttons for eighty minutes.
turntablism and mixing are 2 different types of djing. The videos that people posted above are turntableism, not mixing, which is what op's video is about. Back in the day, mixing was just as difficult if not more so, than scratching, because you had to match songs together by hand and by ear, and have all of the records for your mix there next to you, and you had to have them in the right order and you had to mark where the song is on the record, ect ect... but now mix djs have all their music on a playlist and all they have to do is press one button to auto sync the tracks, because the computer knows the bpms of all the songs. The only thing that makes turntablism easier today is digital records, those white or red records that play digital music like it was on vinyl, because the real record has a fax machine tone the computer syncs to so that you can skratch mp3s and it sounds like real vinyl skratching. It saves a lot of time and space, because djs no longer have to quick switch records or cue to find that right sample or beat.
ex of modern turntablism with digital records, thanks to usa:

ex of old school turntablism (also one of the best sets ever)

OP is dumb as fuck
that's what a DJ does, it's what they all do (unless they're some kind of twat that scratches and loops and plays samples but that sounds shit imo)
i hate when people make threads like this that have no idea about electronic music in the slightest. like that time someone posted a skrillex set (i'm not defending skrillex/big room edm here it's a load of of horse shite) where he played a knife party track and said "omg he's not even playing his own music" ------ how fucking stupid are you???

anyway heres a good example of people that actually turn nobs for a reason, skip to 10 mins ish for a good example. loefah only touches the mixer when he needs to, otherwise he's drinking red stripe or talking to someone
[sp](tracks he mixes at 10 mins are Loefah - Veal and Mak & Pasteman - Dither if anyone cares[/sp]
This is why I will only watch DJ's at raves. They will properly mix to ensure that the people attending have a good time.
snip
I misread the title and thought it was something about DJ Dong. :v:
unless they actually produce or at least mix music DJs are pretty useless, i'm just waiting for everyone to realize they're not needed anymore because all you have to do is make a playlist and play it on some speakers and if you really have to make it non-stop then turn crossfading on
i mean damn i would stand behind a mixing table and press play and then just stand there for 3 hours too for $50/hr but i can't because i don't have a macbook so no one would hire me
OF avatar and title, i wouldn't expect you to know anything about music tbh
OF avatar and title, i wouldn't expect you to know anything about music tbh
pretty unnecessary remark, especially when this thread has nothing to do with what music people like and neither does my post
but since you brought it up OF are a lot better than the shitty electronic music in this video
i'd also like to see what music you listen to that puts you in the position to criticize what i like lol

scroll up a bit and see my other post if you want to see what music I like
I'm not dissing OF but you seem like one of those suburban white kids that shouts about how bastard is the best tyler the creator album and listens to asap rocky religiously
pm me if you want to bitch, i don't want to shit up someone else's thread. i was just making an observation that you seemingly know nothing about electronic music and threw your (wrong) opinion around like a tool

i'm not gonna pm you because i'm not that into arguing with dudes on facepunch so this is my last response but seriously that stereotype of people that enjoy OF's music is getting pretty silly, those types of fans hardly exist and any of them that are like that get made fun of lol, i just listen to them sometimes and i just happen to have a title and avatar that shows my appreciation, look at my last.fm recents if you really want to see what i'm into
you're right about me not knowing anything about electronic music, because i don't listen to it, i was simply saying that when i've gone to parties etc the DJs don't do anything (they're always some dude from essex with a pair of beats by dre and a macbook)
