The recent billboard put up by American Atheists taken down due to death threats.
Earlier this month American Atheists Inc., put up two billboards in Charlotte, NC aimed at the Democratic and Republican national conventions. The billboards questioned the religiosity of the two Presidential candidates. On Thursday, August 24th, those billboards were taken down.
Directly following an article on the front page of the Fox News website, American Atheists received hundreds of hate e-mails and phone calls according to American Atheists’ Managing Director, Amanda Knief who would not comment on whether or not an investigation is underway. Knief did share two particularly hateful e-mails that the group received (expletives have been edited for the purpose of this article):
"ALL OF YOU ARE F#@KING IDIOTS! I HOPE ALL OF YOUR DIE OF A#% CANCER AND BLEED OUT OF YOUR A#@ES. BURN IN HELL... GO F*&K YOUR SISTERS AND BROTHERS,
YOU PIECES OF S#@T.
P.S. HAVE A NICE DAY... HOPE YOU GET HIT BY A TRUCK."
"I hope your children are raped by a herd of goddamn N$%#ERS and then their throats are slit and they die a slow painful death. Now that would be fun to watch. I hope it happens to all of you atheist parents."
The reason that the billboards were taken down was not however due to any threats against American Atheists, but were due to threats made toward Adams Outdoor Advertising, who sold the billboard space to the atheist group.
Knief commented in the official Press Release:
“It is with regret that we tell our members and all of those who treasure free speech and the separation of religion and government that American Atheists and Adams Outdoor Advertising have mutually agreed to remove the billboards immediately,”
Teresa MacBain, American Atheists’ Public Relations Director also commented in the Press Release:
"It saddens me to think that our country is not a safe place for all people to publicly question religious belief. How can we grow as a nation when such censorship exists from our own citizens?"
Stay classy Christians,stay classy.
Lovely.
So any retarded church can put up signs on billboards but not atheists?
I found the whole atheist campaign stupid but holy hell this comes to show religious groups are even worse. When we question their right to show their bullshit everywhere they claim it's their freedom of speech, and now this? Double standarts everywhere.
Even though the signs made the American Atheists were very rude and ignorant, there is no excuse for death threats and wishes for rape upon Atheist families.
God dammit! They should've kept them up.
Those extremist assholes should go whither away in their pile of ignorance.

Accept the love of our loving God, or else, I hope your family gets raped and you get hit by a truck.
-A loving christian.
Every time pushy atheists make me lose a little faith in the atheist community, extremist Christians make them look like cool dudes again by comparison.

Dude, have you read the Bible
there's more incest than Game of Thrones in that thing
I hope God will bless you, all!
I just want to fast-forward to the time where humanity isn't governed by 3000 year old books.

We must all regress to neanderthals. We must worship fire once more!
What if AA's plan was to get these reactions out of christians? pretty sneaky
I don't support any of the actions on either side, but still, what did they expect? If you attack anyone's beliefs, in most cases anyway, there's always some backlash.
I can understand simply disagreeing with their opinion, but this is extremist.

At least there's evidence that fire exists.
What a bunch of crybabies.

Well they aren't exactly extremists since they haven't actually hurt anyone or destroy anything.
Well they aren't exactly extremists since they haven't actually hurt anyone or destroy anything.
It's a pretty extreme reaction, even if they're not blowing up the billboards.
Yyeeeeah. Both sides are chock full of nuts.
The Militant Atheists put of idiotic signs, the Overzelous Religious guys make death threats, it's all very much the pot calling the kettle black.
Yyeeeeah. Both sides are chock full of nuts.
Some nuts believe in facts, some others believe in a 3000 years old book.
Oh and some others would gladly beat you up for not believing in said book.
Well they aren't exactly extremists since they haven't actually hurt anyone or destroy anything.
Wait, so rape and death threats due to intolerance aren't extremists now?

A person who holds extreme or fanatical political or religious views, esp. one who resorts to or advocates extreme action.
besides, how do you know these people haven't hurt anyone before? Maybe not people involved in this sign, but there's no way you can know they haven't attacked anyone before

Please stop using the term ''militant'' atheists, that term was made up by fundamentalists, the worst thing ''militant'' atheists have ever done is put up an ''offensive'' billboard.
Stay classy Christians,stay classy.
You say that as if there aren't atheists that would do the same thing.

I'm talking specifically about the kinds of atheists who demanded that the cross at the World Trade Center Memorial be taken down.
You say that as if there aren't atheists that would do the same thing.
I doubt they'd respond with death threats.
How many people state that without religion there is no such thing as morality and then post this?
"I hope your children are raped by a herd of goddamn N$%#ERS and then their throats are slit and they die a slow painful death. Now that would be fun to watch. I hope it happens to all of you atheist parents."

I doubt they'd respond with death threats.
I know ones who would, also it's painfully obvious that these weren't meant to be taken seriously.
Should've kept up the billboard just to spite them.
I doubt they'd respond with death threats.
I know some pushy atheists, but none of them are so extreme that they would wish death threats on another human being.
Please stop using the term ''militant'' atheists, that term was made up by fundamentalists,
except for the TED talk in which Richard Dawkins advocates "militant atheism" specifically
so no not at all
I did like the "I hope you all die of ass cancer and bleed out of your asses" bit
