SEOUL, South Korea — North Korea fired two ballistic missiles off its east coast on Sunday, flouting a United Nations ban on the country testing such missiles. The test came four days before President Xi Jinping of China was scheduled to visit Seoul, South Korea, his first trip to the Korean Peninsula as Beijing’s leader.
The two Scud-type missiles flew 500 kilometers, or about 310 miles, and landed in waters between North Korea and Japan, officials at the Office of Joint Chiefs of Staff of the South Korean military said on Sunday. North Korea regularly tests short-range rockets and missiles. It fired three short-range projectiles off its coast on Thursday. Its state media later said that its leader, Kim Jong-un, supervised what it called the test firings of a new type of precision-guided missile.
The North’s neighboring countries found its firings on Sunday more provocative because a series of United Nations Security Council resolutions banned the country from testing any ballistic missile technology for fear it was developing an intercontinental ballistic missile with a nuclear warhead.
Although North Korea had technical reasons to test its missiles, outside analysts said that the country often timed such test-firings to make a political impact in the region, especially when the leaders or negotiators of neighboring governments gathered to discuss their policies on the North. North Korea launched two midrange Rodong ballistic missiles in March, when President Barack Obama met with President Park Geun-hye of South Korea and Prime Minister Shinzo Abe of Japan on the sidelines of a nuclear security summit in The Hague and condemned its nuclear ambitions.
Mr. Xi was scheduled to arrived in Seoul on Thursday for a two-day trip that included a summit meeting with Ms. Park. While announcing Mr. Xi’s trip to Seoul, Qin Gang, spokesman for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, maintained that China had a “fair and objective position” on the Korean Peninsula.
But the South Korean news media played up the fact that Mr. Xi was the first Chinese president to visit Seoul before Pyongyang, the capital of North Korea, after assuming the top leadership in Beijing. Some interpreted it as a possible sign that Beijing might be rearranging its priorities between South and North Korea, China’s traditional ally.
North Korea is breaking a UN ban? Oh I can't wait to see how angrily they're going to write their letters now.
Laserguided is posting a hell of a lot of military/war related news, jeez.
Also, damn, I can't say this is a surprise. At all. NK's taking more and more risks under Kim Jong Un. There's got to be a breaking point soon enough.
We're already dealing with crap in Ukraine, Syria and Iraq (and all three have become vaguely linked to eachother)
ffs NK we don't need you joining the shit storm too.
North Korea is the Ann Coulter of nations. Does absolutely outrageous and stupid shit, but we know they're just trying to get attention.

don't worry there bullshiting.
I want to say that I can't wait until they cross the line, because they're so obviously toeing that line, but I don't really want to see more war, especially in something that'll potentially get messy with China.
Whats up with North Korea doing all these tests a few days before somebody comes and visits?
Whats up with North Korea doing all these tests a few days before somebody comes and visits?
That's probably the very reason for their timing.
Somebody needs to fucking do something about this shit now.

Why now?
It's not like there missiles will ever actually hit anything.
But they are hitting the sea, think of the marine life
I really wanna see Kim's face when Cthulhu comes fuck their shit up.
One day China, Russia or the US will get fed up of their shit and 'give' them a fully working ICBM nuclear warhead, delivered to their doorstep in under 15 minutes.
...can we just invade north korea before they somehow end up becoming nazi germany in wold war 2?

Invading North Korea would mean fighting half of their population and most of the country is mountains so they can just go hide there and fight a guerilla war. Which is what we've been stuck doing in Afghanistan for the past 13 years.

They might get so angry they just might send a...voicemail
Invasion of North Korea will never happen unless NK decides to invade South Korea. The only other way North Korea will be defeated is if China puts their boot down and tells NK to go fuck itself and breaks off all of trade with them which will fuck them over quite bad as they get a lot of fuel, food and luxuries form them.

Not sure if I want to take that kind of gamble with a country that has a leader as crazy as Kim Jong-un, he's already shown he is willing to take some big risks already. Why wait for someone to die in order to slap down NK?

I don't know why you're making UN jokes when the UN's military intervention during the Korean War is one of the reasons North Korea is the way it is
An angry letter written in red ink?
I don't know why you're making UN jokes when the UN's military intervention during the Korean War is one of the reasons North Korea is the way it is
That was the old U.N, back when it was just a front for the west to unify there power.
Besides that its just hilarous, everyone acts like firing missiles into the ocean or give each other stern warnings and enact legislation that has no enforcement countless times over actually means anything.
I bet they're even typing this letter on their sternest typeset
Sterns new roman,
And they're even going to put it in a glossy binder before shipping it by tomahawk missile to pyangyang
