Since I live in the area, I feel as if there's more too it than "just a fight." Lee high school is named after, I shit you, Robert E. Lee of the confederate army, Alabama huh? There has always been incredibly high racial tension in the area and in the school its self. And beyond that, It's like "Oh a bunch of blacks are fighting, break out the hand cuffs." This would probably be the only time Al Sharpton could start complaining about racism without it being just Al Sharpton grabbing at straws for attention. I can understand the two girls being disciplined by staff for fighting, but an actual arrest? that is goddamned insane. And "disorderly conduct" sounds like a bunch of bullshit too.

I think it should be based on the severity of the brawl and what motivated it. Typical high-school knuckle-dusters should not be wasting police time and taxpayer money. Such things should be reserved for if it was likely to, or did, cause injury requiring medical attention, or at least one party was motivated by something other than typical friction. Something like hatred, or racism, or an intent to bully. Something like that.

At my old school you got maybe 3 days off at the maximum. Sometimes you'd get no serious punishment other than perhaps detention.
2 weeks ago we had a fight at school every single day in a row.
Monday started with a huge ~8 guy brawl, someone ended up getting stabbed or something, I don't remember. The rest were all girl fights.

I don't think anybody ever got stabbed at my school
Some adult guy got stabbed with a screwdriver outside our school, but I think that was a rare gang-related thing
