• Palestinian teen activist could face years in prison after slapping an Israeli soldier
Her wild, curly hair was unmistakeable, piled on top of her head, as she approached the two Israeli soldiers outside her house. "Come on, get out," the teenage girl yelled last Friday afternoon at the soldiers. "Get out of here, don't stay here." Standing in her driveway, 17-year-old Ahed Tamimi can be seen in a now-viral video pushing one of the Israeli soldiers, then kicking him in the shins. She went in again, this time with her right fist, hitting his shoulder. He deflected her. "Don't touch me," she screamed in his face and reached up to slap the soldier. Five days after the incident, Ahed was led into an Israeli military court today. The dramatic video, shot and distributed by the Tamimi family, has gone viral in the past few days. Ahed is a well-known teenage activist, from a family of well-known activists in the Palestinian village of Nabi Saleh, in the occupied West Bank. Speaking to Army Radio Tuesday, Israel Education Minister Naftali Bennett, leader of the extreme right-wing Jewish Home party, said Ahed and her cousin, the other girl seen in the video last Friday, "should finish their lives in prison." “The pictures are harsh,” Bennett said. “I trust that the incident will be investigated, the lessons will be learned, and those activists who attacked will be tried.” Ahed could face seven years in prison, Bennett added.
http://abcnews.go.com/International/palestinian-teen-activist-face-years-prison-slapping-israeli/story?id=51913049 Can't really express the words at how pissed I am.
I mean I'm all for punishing her - randomly slapping and kicking a soldier is fucking dumb - by 7 years in prison is way too excessive. This is a bit disturbing though:
The morning after the arrest, Israeli Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman threatened the family, saying, "Everyone involved, not only the girl but also her parents and those around them, will not escape from what they deserve."

Ahed's parents have both encouraged youth activism, and it's not the first time Ahed has gone viral.
I'm all for youth activism, but hitting and threatening soldiers isn't the kind of activism you should aim for - especially not among youths.
I agree to an extent, but we're comparing peace time activism to war time activism. Physical altercations aren't exactly taboo in those times. [editline]21st December 2017[/editline] We shouldn't be encouraging this behavior, but we also shouldn't be punishing this behavior, is basically where I'm at.
This is a bit disturbing though:
Collective Punishment is official policy in the Occupied Territories. They have a separate legal system that they apply to the non-citizen civilians that are born and live in their claimed lebensraum.
I'm all for youth activism, but hitting and threatening soldiers isn't the kind of activism you should aim for - especially not among youths.
These people are born into an occupation where their basic liberties like freedom of movement are heavily regulated by conscripts from a foreign nation - it would be crazy to expect them not to lash out occasionally.

By not punishing it, you are saying that it's alright to be violent towards the opposition. In return, the opposition becomes violent, and then you will lock yourself in an endless circle where both sides will become increasingly destructive towards one another.

Fight and die or don't fight and merely be progressively ethnically cleansed by lawfare.
Foreign soldiers illegally occupying your village.
So? I do not support the Israeli government's policies, but 7 years is excessive regardless. Had she attacked him with a weapon - be it a knife or gun - then maybe I'd agree? But a slap on the cheek? No.
Collective Punishment is official policy in the Occupied Territories. They have a separate legal system that they apply to the non-citizen civilians that are born and live in their claimed lebensraum.
Collective punishment is, first off, totally wrong. Should my family be punished if I happened to steal something? Second, the defense minister's wording is extremely poor, and I suspect deliberate: it is bordering on him saying they will all die in retaliation for a soldier being slapped.
These people are born into an occupation where their basic liberties like freedom of movement are heavily regulated by conscripts from a foreign nation - it would be crazy to expect them not to lash out occasionally.
I cannot imagine what it's like to live under occupation-like conditions, but regardless: violence begets violence.

The opposition is already pissed do you really think someone getting punished is going to make them change their minds? At least releasing her would show good will. [editline]21st December 2017[/editline] Whatever treatment she is facing now in prison negates whatever lesson they intend to impose.
On Friday, shortly after a 15-year-old Palestinian boy was shot by an Israeli soldier with a rubber-coated metal bullet in the West Bank village of Nabi Saleh, an ambulance took him to a Palestinian hospital. It was then that soldiers came to the courtyard of the home of Bassem and Nariman Tamimi, distant relatives of the boy, Mohammed Tamimi.
https://www.haaretz.com/israel-news/.premium-1.830214 So this is why, idk if its a good link or not but I have no reason to doubt the story. That reminds me of my grandfather's story, back when Southeast Asia is being colonized by Japanese, ~50 years ago. Back in those days, if you didn't bow your head when Japs soldiers are passing by, the minimum punishment you'll get is a heavy slap to the face and a beating, or beheaded. That was a barbaric time With modern Zionist, as a child at least you can sneak a kick in, before being imprisoned, if you're not getting shot on the spot.
You get this type of shit everyday. Her parents should be fucking imprisoned for sending her off like that to hassle Israeli soldiers just so they can film a reaction. That girl isn't the only case, They used to come with their children near Israeli checkposts and Pillboxes a few times a week. They give them flags of Palestine and dress them up with the latest trend of clothes that makes them look more rebellious. AND THEN they used to go back a few meters and film us for hours to see if we react. Of course most of these kids just waved their flag, shouted a few things in arabic and posed fof pictures infront of us, but those who threw some rocks, spat or kicked us in the legs instantly made their parents fill up with adrenaline and shout for more. It makes me utterly disgusted and sick in my stomach how parents like these fuckwits send their children to provoke armed soldiers for the sake of views and publicity. This is the reality: the elders utterly fuck the younger generation and educate them to attack and provoke. Then the same children will do the same to THEIR kids. THIS is the reason why Palestinians will continue to be miserable, because what else changed in the past 50 years?
This is a bit disturbing though: - quotes from Avigdor Lieberman -
sippenhaft/collective punishment is a go-to of those who are ethically bankrupt, so it's not surprising it's being invoked here
I guess if Palestinian would bend over and prepare their anus for Zionist since the beginning all this shit would not have happened, and their life would not have been miserable.
Her entire family is notorious for trying to start shit with israeli soldiers and harass them for hours while filming them in case the soldiers push them away so they can claim that the soldiers assaulted them. It's the family business and she should be punished harshly.

Looking back, I should have shoot that one kid who insult me with all those names a few years back, true story. How dare his parents didn't even say anything to him after his heinous crime. Should have shot that kid dead. Lucky for him my family didn't have a gun. (User was banned for this post ("Advocating murder/what the fuck dude" - Sgt Doom))
Except that here it's not at the border, it was in front of her house.
That's not the point, she came and provoked them without a reason. Not only that, but her parents didn't even try to stop her, instead they pulled a camera instantly.

If you learned anything violence only breeds more violence, if somebody wants to rant let them waste their words.

The international community consider this region as an occupied territory so actions like that are no surprises too

Look at the second video, the kid runs into the car's path and then it's framed as the driver chose to run over the kid. Also, count the cameras. I understand your point about everyone carrying a smartphone camera but 3 people carrying around a DSLR camera is suspicious

Yeah the people in these videos are assholes but aren't representative of the Palestinians as a whole. That's like me saying all Israelis are Zionist, when I know damn well that most aren't. And if you really believe the Palestinians send the kids to fight for them, why should they be punished for the crimes of their parents?

They disagree on how it should be implemented but the vast majority believe that there should be a Jewish state in the area where Jews lived before being exiled and that state should be one where Jews have control of the government
I find it deeply concerning that religious propaganda is so strong that they would believe that their ancestors living there thousands of years ago somehow entitles them to the land today.

It doesn't help that the leaders like to be hard asses over everything, which I get with it being a war but it shouldn't be encouraged.
