Yesterday morning, a long awaited title called Deus Ex: Human Revolution was finally released to an eager audience. Tucked inside the box was a little surprise: a coupon for a free copy of the same game through the still relatively new game streaming service, OnLive — something which, if purchased directly through OnLive, would cost $49.99. At least, there was supposed to be a coupon…

“Please immediately remove and discard the OnLive coupon from all Regular PC versions of Deus Ex: Human Revolution,”

Regarding the Deus Ex OnLive Codes: GameStop’s policy is that we do not promote competitive services without a formal partnership. Square Enix packed a competitor’s coupon within the PC version of Deus Ex: Human Revolution without our prior knowledge and we did pull these coupons. While the new products may be opened, we fully guarantee the condition of the discs to be new. If you find this to not be the case, please contact the store where the game was purchased and they will further assist.
The article here What the fuck Gamestop. What the fuck. Now I'm worried they're going to take out my code for pre-ordering Battlefield 3 because the map pack is made my a company they don't like or something :v:
I don't know why you would really want to use OnLive anyway.
Dicks. Though I haven't heard much about OnLive. Dunno if it's decent or not, considering it streams games.
I don't know why you would really want to use OnLive anyway.
That's not the point. Like the first quote said, it's a 50 dollar value they just removed from the game. They opened the game and removed something that was supposed to be included with the game.
Nothing like a big ole' FUCK YOU from gamestop.

The employees are just doing their jobs. So stop trying to be a fear mongerer.

I'm not saying it's the employees faults, I'm saying Gamestop is an asshole company, and this is just another reason why. Order from Gamestop. This was sent to the managers to tell the employees, meaning Gamestop, the company, ordered the removal of the coupon that was supposed to be included with every game.
I bet the employees will keep the codes and toss them on ebay just like they do with all the excess codes from preorders and such
I'm surprised that OnLive still exists.
Gamestop fails...
Oh gamestop, as if you don't treat PC gamers like crap already with your one shelf of overpriced decade old computer games, allowing no refunds, and allowing your employees to "test" the game and then sell it as new. What irritates me the most is that so many people buy from them since in the US they pretty much have a monopoly on the "purely video games" business. I would rather go to Walmart for my games then Gamestop.
Gamestop fails...
gamestop is quite good if all you want is to get a random game or some used console though it's usually a bit cheaper to order online

only beef i have with gamestop is they sold me a copy of twilight princess where if i walked into the forest temple the game would freeze they took my millions of worthless movie games i got when i was stupid for 100$ and i got like 3 fucking awesome games with that money [editline]25th August 2011[/editline] mergebreak and my gamestop doesnt have a pc section but steam is good enough
I've been in a few Gamestops that don't even have a PC section :v:
Oh yeah me too. I remember I felt so awkward when I just walked in, took one quick look around the store for the pc games, and then walked out. The lady behind the counter reading a magazine probably didn't even notice me though.
Is it even legal to tamper with a product like that? Especially if it's advertised on the case that the coupon comes with the game?

They are a distribution company only. If they are told to pull something, they pull it.
I bet the employees will keep the codes and toss them on ebay just like they do with all the excess codes from preorders and such
If they are caught doing this they lose their jobs. So not likely. To those rating this post dumb, read down at this post;
"Note that the recall is being performed in agreement with Square Enix, indicating the two companies have been in communication regarding the situation." Square Enix is doing this, don't be stupid.
Uhhh, GameStop is pulling Deus Ex http://kotaku.com/5834169/gamestop-pulls-pc-deus-ex-human-revolution-from-shelves-following-onlive-debacle
No seriously how does OnLive still exist?
They should give out $50 giftcards to everyone who should have gotten the coupon.
What is OnLive? Never heard of it, rate me late but waht is it?
What is OnLive? Never heard of it, rate me late but waht is it?
It's a cloud service where instead of you playing the game directly on your system they stream it to you over the internet
isn't it laggy? This sounds like a terrible idea
What a joke. A publisher who still does good old games in boxes goes out of it's way to provide an optional digital copy of the game(advertisement or not), and they deem it unacceptable and take it out. Maybe they thought they would lose me if I tried On-Live, well now they definitely lost me because I don't get what I paid for from them. I won't even consider their download service.
isn't it laggy? This sounds like a terrible idea
Unless your only possesions are a TV and you found a OnLive system in a dumpster. Otherwise, it's useless and I don't know why anyone would use it
isn't it laggy? This sounds like a terrible idea
Yeah it's terribly laggy to anyone who doesn't live within a mile of their data centres.
I think we should all ignore the fact OnLive may or may not be a godawful service, but rather focus on the fact the GAMESTOP IS STEALING CONTENT FROM VIDEOGAMES BECAUSE THE CONTENT MAKES THEM UPSET.
I've been in a few Gamestops that don't even have a PC section :v:
Mine had a pc section that was only 1 meter long and high in games.. Every game was expensive as fuck and i can get it for a fraction of the price on ebay
Yeah it's terribly laggy to anyone who doesn't live within a mile of their data centres.
Post your results from http://www.speedtest.net/ , If you get less then 100 ping and over 3Mb/s you should be fine within their 1000 mile limit No, but seriously, I live 900 miles from their data centers and only occasionally do I ever notice the latency while using it. The picture quality is reasonable and they soon plan to upgrade from 720p to 1080p if you can handle it [editline]lol[/editline] I have to admit though, gaikai is much better when it comes to latency. Too bad they only have demos
I seriously don't see a reason to care. OnLive doesn't sound all that interesting. And why should you hate gamestop because of this? They sell games. If the game works, I'm happy with their services. No questions asked.
