I've got a few hours left to start and finish a term paper for my History class. I'm an expert procrastinator in every sense (See: thread.) and this is the first "real" term paper I've got to write, even though I take all honors and AP classes. I'm in 10th grade. I don't have a fucking clue how to cite things Chicago style or how to start the damn thing. It's only five pages long and I can finish it within three hours if I apply myself, really, but starting it will be the biggest challenge. It's about the start of the Sioux Rebellion, meaning the events leading up to and shortly into and after it, for those that are interested in helping a fellow Facepunch member out.
I'm not asking anybody to give me a complete paper, obviously, I'm essentially looking for pointers about term papers in general, mostly dealing with citations, from real people with real experience.
Thanks
more like 'down syndrome sider'
Isn't this a school thread?
No, you fucked up.
Sorry to be inexperienced. It's hardly my fault, really. I'm not stupid, let me tell you. I'm lazy. Most people can relate. I expected this community to be a bit more mature, honestly, simply because it's composed of people with similar interests to me, being programming, amongst other things.
Again, I'm simply asking for pointers on how to write term papers in general.

It's not an issue of maturity, you should have been more responsible and started your paper much earlier. I know what you mean though when you say starting is the hardest part. If you want to start out well and not become distracted, just do it. There are no tips or pointers to this, just get shit done and do it right.
okay, I don't know what school you go to, but in my school AP classes aren't until like 11 / 12th grade.

You can use it to automatically make chicago style citations for you, after you enter in all the information, it shits it out
A weird thing about it is that in word 2k7, for some reason if you copy+paste directly to from the website to word, it crashes (Font, maybe?)
But all you have to do is copy it to notepad first then into word
I used it for my karl marx paper and got a great grade on my paper
I'm in the exact same situation right now, except I have until Friday to complete my 5-8 page report about world events in 1988 I've had a month to do.
I'm fucked
Isn't being responsible part of being mature?
Anyway, I guess that's enough "pointers" for now.

This article was actually rather helpful. Thanks.

Stop helping him cheat.
Make an outline and you will finish the paper within a hour.
Stop helping him cheat.
It's not cheating, it's just a short-cut
But if he wants to earn his grade he might as well do it himself.

You contradicted yourself right here. Laziness is completely your fault. Who else would you blame for your actions?

Thanks, mate. I use OpenOffice, you should look into it. Keep it on a flashdrive, use it wherever. Don't have to worry about compatibility, as it runs on the two operating systems you'll find in a school environment seamlessly (OSX, Windows).

Wikipedia made my outline.

Yea I use openoffice.org mostly, but My computer broke and I had to use my dad's work laptop which his company loaded full of proprietary software
If all else fails....

I've never gone so low to use it but, it's there.
Point 1: Get off Facepunch and start writing

I am writing. I'll continue to monitor this thread for any more useful information. I would've missed quite a bit of useful things, such as the citations generator or the WikiHow link.

I meant it's not my fault that I'm inexperienced.

It is your fault that you're making lame-ass excuses, get to it.
Personally, I use Bibme.com for the bibliography.
When I start an essay, I usually skip the introduction and start on some of the facts. Intros have always been the hardest for me, and sometimes it's easier if I start doing the factual side first.
Chicago Style? Pff, MLA is where it's at.
Also, http://easybib.com/
They have auto citing, where you simply enter the ID number from the barcode on the back of the book, something every modern publication has.

You're trying to pull that card when you smugly claim every class you're in is either AP or Honors?
[release]For future reference:
1. Create a playlist of montage/blood pumping music to last you AT LEAST 4 hours (I'm just like you, super lazy) and put it on randomize without looking at the playlist, so you're not tempted to shut the song off.
2. Stay up til 2 AM or later. You don't need to be at full attention to hand a paper in. You can sleep during an elective/the useless parts of math class
3. Caffeine.
4. Get comfortable. Wear your bath robe or something.
5. If you, feel the need to, fap first, so that it's out of your system.
6. Lock your door. You don't need constant interruption from everyone outside
7. blare your music or wear headphones. Once again, you don't need the constant interruptions from the home-dwellers around you.
8. Remove your internet connection. I only do this If I have nothing but book sources, but if you need the internet, don't
9. Turn the light off. Too much light = too much distraction
10. Fuck editing. Typographical errors can wait til the bus-ride to school/all classes you have before this (unless you're in college, you can find a way to do it before your class)
11. Don't worry about sources, teachers never check anyway, they check for copy-pasta.
12. Wake up early. It may be agonizing, but you have to persevere. You can rest after your triumph later.
13. Work on the next term paper due tomorrow.[/release]
I seriously haven't had a full nights sleep since spring break

Are you trying to help me or reel me into an argument? Once I get into one, I stick to it. I'm proud.
I'm inexperienced with term papers. This is the first one I've been subjected to do.
