[img]http://imgur.com/SvdpP.png[/img] [b]Availability:[/b] Facepunch for iPhone is now in the app review process and will be available in the iTunes App Store globally within the coming weeks. I have no control over how long this process takes, but I'll let you know as soon as we're in the store. [b]Features:[/b] Once we are though, what can you expect? Well, this application has gone through a long refinement process in the form of it's beta programme. A collection of Facepunch users have been testing this app for the past few months, reporting back with bugs and suggestions. All of these have been taken onboard to produce an app specifically tailored to our forums. The current feature set is as follows: • Browse forums and threads (full pagination, 40 posts per page, 30 threads per page) • Reply to threads (you can use BBCode here too, no problems) • Rate posts • View popular threads list • View your read threads [b]Performance:[/b] Might sound pretty simple, but what you can't see in a feature list, is the raw speed of this application. Here's some benchmarks from our beta, performance is even better than this right now, I'll do new benchmarks soon: Facepunch.com via Safari running on an iPhone 4 connected via GPRS: From tapping the icon to getting the list of forums (cold start): 32.8 seconds From tapping the icon to getting the list of forums (warm start): Same as cold, subsequent loads were no faster Tapping a forum to getting the list of threads: 37.2 seconds Tapping a thread to getting the posts (4 posts): 48.6 seconds Facepunch for iPhone running on an iPhone 4 connected via GPRS: From tapping the icon to getting the list of forums (cold start): 4.7 seconds - 7x faster From tapping the icon to getting the list of forums (warm start): 0.7 seconds Tapping a forum to getting the list of threads: 5.1 seconds - 7.3x faster Tapping a thread to getting the posts (1 post): 2.1 seconds Tapping a thread to getting the posts (12 posts): 4.5 seconds - 10.8x faster Facepunch.com via Safari running on an iPhone 4 connected via WiFi: Tapping a thread to getting the posts (3 posts): 6.3 seconds Facepunch for iPhone running on an iPhone 4 connected via WiFi: Tapping a thread to getting the posts (4 posts): 1.5 seconds - 4.2x faster [b]Screenshots:[/b] As you can see by the numbers, considerably faster. Oh, you want screenshots? Okay then. You can upgrade your account from within the application using in-app purchases, or eventually via PayPal for those who can't pay via iTunes. This is a one time payment, pay this and your account is permanently upgraded. For what it's worth, 30% of that goes in Steve Jobs pocket. The other 70% goes to me as profits and to pay garry for access to the site via our new Facepunch API, which is responsible for this extreme speed. Get permabanned and you [b]will[/b] need to upgrade your new account if you wish to continue to use the application, so don't get permabanned. This might seem steep, but it's only the price of a couple cups of coffee. You need to decide whether it's worth that much to you for faster access to the sites on the go, and in turn, longer battery life. I'll be adding new features to the app periodically depending on sales, the more people buy, the more features I'll add to it, so you can decide how awesome you want this to become. Since I know there's a significant group of you who are really resistant to part with their pennies, we'll also offer a free trial so you can see the difference for yourself. Each account will be able to request a short trial of the upgrade where you can try out the application for free. After the trial period, you'll need to purchase the upgrade to continue using the application. If you're intending to buy once it's in the store at the above price, please vote in the poll above, so I can get an idea of numbers of sales initially. Don't vote if you don't have an iPhone, only vote if you have an iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad and are actually going to buy the app. [b]Questions?[/b] If you've got any questions I've not answered above, fire away and I'll be happy to answer.
Been waiting so long for this app. Cannot wait. :iia:
Thread icons?
[QUOTE=QuickSnapz;29966534]Thread icons?[/QUOTE] No support right now, but it's coming soon. Currently all threads use the beta posticon. Next version after release will let you choose which icon you'd like to use.
can we see the existing ratings others have rated?
[QUOTE=Shounic;29966573]can we see the existing ratings others have rated?[/QUOTE] Currently no, still thinking of a streamlined way to show this. Popping an entirely new window for it seems clumsy.
Yes, definitely. Been watching this for a while, can't wait
If you don't have an iPhone, [b]don't vote[/b].
Does ipod touch count
Using safari for FP blows (can't even log in) so yes.
going to download this app for sure.
[QUOTE=QuickSnapz;29966751]Does ipod touch count[/QUOTE] Yes, this works on every kind of iOS device. It works great on iPad too. It'll scale like any other iPhone application. However, if you jailbreak and install FullForce, it'll work like an iPad native application, and looks pretty awesome. 9 months in the making and we're finally almost in the store, feels good man.
But if I'll get permad, I won't be upgrading a second time thats for sure
It isn't difficult to not get perma'd really. If you value your account enough (and you should), you won't get perma'd.
[QUOTE=backfoggen;29966765]Using safari for FP blows (can't even log in) so yes.[/QUOTE] I can log in and post fine with it.
[QUOTE=Quark:;29966871]I can log in and post fine with it.[/QUOTE] If I select the user name and password fields it doesn't delete the contents and when I do it myself and enter my stuff it says wrong password.
It works fine for me, posting from iPod Touch.
I don't even know what you have to do to get perma'd, throw a nuclear bomb on Garry's house or something like that? Is the app available yet? *Insert 'take my money' meme* I can't find it on the app store. EDIT: Oh, it's not out yet. Well i'll be sure to part with my money once it is available.
Will there be an ad-based version of this? I don't have a credit card connected to my apple account so I can't buy shit from the App Store
[QUOTE=Quark:;29966984]It works fine for me, posting from iPod Touch.[/QUOTE] On wifi it's fine.
If I could actually buy shit off itunes I would buy it. But I can't. This is exactly the sort of app I want right now.
Finally. But I'm excited none the less.

Is there OIFY access? no oify access, no buy.
Nope not buying it.
[QUOTE=backfoggen;29967176]Is there OIFY access? no oify access, no buy.[/QUOTE] You really think Apple would approve that?
[QUOTE=Hexxeh;29967201]You really think Apple would approve that?[/QUOTE] So no gold member forum then either
GMF access is in. Apple's review account is blue...
[QUOTE=Hexxeh;29967201]You really think Apple would approve that?[/QUOTE] Add it afterwards, no one will know....
Will images in threads be supported eventually? Maybe with a toggle in the settings menu for those who aren't on wifi.
Sorry, you need to Log In to post a reply to this thread.
