• Superman Gets a Hipster Makeover
Superman has a new look, and the redrawn Man of Steel now more closely resembles a a vampiric Robert Pattinson or a sulky member of My Chemical Romance than a hunky matinee idol. The new Superman will appear in "Superman: Earth One," a graphic novel by writer J. Michael Straczynski and artist Shane Davis that retells the superhero's origin story. While the iconic superhero retains his dark mane and defined six pack, he now has a decidedly more emo vibe -- pale, leaner, and brooding. (No need to get too worked up, Superman loyalists: This new graphic novel series doesn't replace the original comics, but rather will serve as a "reinterpretation" of his younger years.) The Superhero Universe seems to have been increasingly influenced by what could be termed the "Twilight Effect," as Wonder Woman was given a similarly "edgy" makeover in June when her "bustier and hotpants" were traded out for a blue biker jacket and a trendy new hair style. In the words of the New York Post, the new Man of Steel "wears hoodies" and "has smoldering eyes"; and as Clark Kent, he wears low-cut pants and skinny ties. So basically Superman has turned into a full-on hipster. Photos: Wild Costumes at Gaming Convention DC Comics co-publisher Dan DiDio described the graphic novel -- in book stores November 2 -- with adjectives more typically used to hype new CW dramas. "We wanted to tell a story that's hip, sexy, and moody," he said. Hopefully Jon Hamm -- the front-runner (at least in the eyes of Internet commenters and fanboy director Kevin Smith) for the role of Superman in the upcoming Zack Snyder reboot -- will take note of this development. Now would probably be a good time to invest in some hipster glasses and ironic t-shirts, Jon.
Pictures are in the link http://omg.yahoo.com/blogs/crush/superman-gets-a-hipster-makeover/488 :argh: Hipsters ruin everything.
His kryptonite is logic.
u can now label anything hipster
I wouldn't really call it hipster, more of an angsty teenager.
i actually pre-ordered this comic and am eagerly waiting to see what happens and how it goes but JMS ( john micheal strazinsky's ) record of writing superman is not very good at all, i would'nt so much as call him hipster more like modernisation but i thought smallville was pretty much as good a modernisation as any ( pre superman ofc )
Why the fuck does he look like a fucking sparkly homosexual vampire?
the word "hipster" is getting thrown around like nobodys buisness lately
He looks more like Alex Mercer to me.
That's not Hipster. At all.

He looks like a villain now, the fuck is going on.
That redesign isn't hipster, it's teenage angsty. I'll call Clark Kent a hipster when I see him in a Williamsburg Starbucks working on his half-finished coming-of-age novel on his Macbook air while listening to OK Go on cassette.

It could have been a lot worse.
It's actually not that bad. Times change, comics change with them, as much as it sucks to admit...I'd rather wait to read it to pass judgment.
If it's his younger years, I'm pretty sure he has a right to be angsty what with being adopted and all.
Alex Mercer? [editline]26th October 2010[/editline] Are you fucking me. :saddowns:
Superman sucks, really. Deadpool FTW!
He looks like an angsty rebel in his late teens.
... why
[img_thumb]http://cnnmarquee.files.wordpress.com/2010/06/t1larg-wonderwoman.jpg?w=640[/img_thumb] ... why
Wearing what basically looks like a swimsuit is that much better?
Fuck that. Superman is the opposite of the dark, angsty hero.
why are they calling it "the twilight make over" when something becomes dark and edgier, shit has been becoming "Dark and edgier" WAY before Twilight even exisited
That's just silly.

http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/hipster
A teenager that doesn't have a slayer tee and has a modern, clean haircut; what a hipster. To above poster: That might be the definition of hipster, but most people on this forum have a more specific generalization of a hipster. I think that's what everyone else meant.
:saddowns: What new level of hell have we arrived at?
