Variety reported exclusively in December that Nolan had come on to direct and produce the film with his longtime partner Emma Thomas. They have been conducting an extensive casting search. “Dunkirk” will be shot on a combination of Imax 65mm and 65mm large format film. Shooting will begin in May at many of the locations where the true-life events actually took place. A quickly-assembled British fleet of more than 800 boats saved more than 335,00 soldiers who had been cut off by the German Army. As the rescue was concluding, British Prime Minister Winston Churchill told Parliament, “We shall fight on beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills. We shall never surrender.” “Dunkirk” hits theaters on July 21, 2017. Styles, 22, joined the group One Direction in 2010. The band, which has released four albums, was the subject of the 2013 Morgan Spurlock documentary “One Direction: This Is Us,” which grossed $68 million worldwide. Newcomer Whitehead appeared in ITV’s three-part horror-drama “Him.”
If the rumours are true, him and Whitehead are both leads and play rookies, with Hardy and Rylance having mentor-like roles. Hey, if he's any good, why the hell not. I can't imagine Nolan would have brought someone in just because they're popular with teenage girls. Hair has to go, though.
that's......interesting
Not sure I expected that.
well that's surprising to say the least.
Huh, it's weird but I don't think I can question Nolan or Hardy's judgement
Should've been Zayn, he's the hot one.
interest has plummeted harder than it ever has for a film before.
well if he's a good actor then why not
Not like putting a pop singer in a leading role is unprecedented. Japanese films do this all the time. For example, Ninomiya Kazunari of Letters from Iwo Jima was a Japanese pop idol when he acted as the lead character in that movie. As long as he has the acting chops for it he could be good.
I've no problem with it if he's good
Can't wait to see Harry Styles screaming and covered in blood :v:
As long as he doesn't suck.

Jumping into a war movie would really help that if he does it well.
I wonder how they're going to recreate the evacuation. I doubt there are many Royal Navy ships from the actual evacuation to use. I wonder if we'll see Charles Lightoller (2nd officer on the Titanic) in the film? The guy filled his little fishing boat with soldiers until it was nearly overflowing. In 1912 he interpreted the captains orders to save only women and children. In 1940 he went out of his way to save men in the water. That's one of my favorite historical stories I tell to explain how history is connected.
interest has plummeted harder than it ever has for a film before.
Makes absolutely no difference to me.
And the part of corpral redshirt is to be played by...
Dunno how everyone can say they trust Nolan when Nolan made DKR
Dunno how everyone can say they trust Nolan when Nolan made DKR
DKR wasn't that bad, I mean it was littered with plotholes, but it was entertaining enough. Plus DKR was more of a "let's milk this" film, I doubt an original film would feel that forced.
Dunno how everyone can say they trust Nolan when Nolan made DKR
Hey that movie was a masterpiece; how on earth he got to make a B-movie on a Hollywood budget and a huge advertising push is beyond me but the results speak for themselves.
Should've been Zayn, he's the hot one.
But Harry doesn't know he's beautiful. In fact I'd go so far as to say that that is what makes him beautiful.
interest has plummeted harder than it ever has for a film before.
lmao dae one erection?? You are seriously gonna completely discount a movie based on the single casting decision of one person who's music you dislike?
Should've been Zayn, he's the hot one.
I would watch a 3 hour movie of just Zayn doing absolutely nothing.
lmao dae one erection?? Not even joking. i just think it's weird casting unless Styles is an incredible trained actor, especially alongside heavyweights like Hardy,Rylance and Branagh (the latter two being incredible classically trained stage actors)

I am sure he'll be great in the movie, he literally has to put on a show, and keep a certain image for his fans for a living, it's not like he has no acting experience.
Makes absolutely no difference to me.
The only thing for me is like "Oh that's weird" and that's really it, like it'll be weird because it's a boy band guy in a serious War Film, but it could work. Then again it could also have the chance to be super awkward :v:.
