A Sheffield artist has mistakenly used £20,000 worth of comics to make papier-mâché.
Steve Eyre, who owns the World of Superheroes shop, noticed the rare copy of Avengers #1 incorporated into the sculpture Paperboy by Andrew Vickers at the S1 Artspace exhibition.
"First of all I thought 'fantastic' as, visually, it is a beautiful thing, but then as I walked round it, certainly on the inside right leg, there was a cover of Avengers #1," Eyre told the BBC.
Just would like to take a quick quote from the article.
"I really love the idea of me creating something out of such expensive things that's worth less. I think it's brilliant."
This is why people think artists are snobby and pretentious.
This vaguely reminds me of a story I heard regarding a Rammstein music video.

Guy decided his costume didn't look right, so he borrowed a make up girls super expensive makeup and threw it all over this really shitty suit.
I can kind of see where they're coming from, there's a nice contrast of something mundane made of something super valuable, like a coke can made of platinum. Doesn't change the fact that it's a waste of money, sadly.
well thats some of comic book history gone
i think it was more of an honest mistake that he didnt notice, and by the time he did, it was too late to do anything about it
might as well go with the flow and incorporate its sheer expense and history into your art

First line of the quoted article, though I'm guilty of not reading it also.

Desecrating history is a low blow to mankind itself.

If I did I'd be lying. They did strip it off later though.

Yeah well I think you're a fucking retard.
I'm sorry guys, but if someone owns a piece of history, it's theirs. Especially if it is non-unique, I can't find any ethical qualms that you can use to justify their obligation to preserve it in its "original form" (even this is a problematic concept--everything decays, necessitating restoration that, taken to its limits, will lead to the replacement of the whole with an entirely NEW thing). If you have problems with that form of property ownership, I suggest that you look into some of the more nationalistic political philosophies for sweet, temporary relief.

No one is arguing about whether it should be legal or not, so why even bring this up?
He might be legally entitled to do that but that doesn't mean he isn't a spaz for doing it.

Somebody bought it off him and stripped the paint off. I can't find the picture of it myself, but i bet somebody else will post it.
"comic book history"
like thousands of those things weren't printed

How many of those would you guess are still around?
If somebody chucks things out in the skip they don't generally throw things out that are worth anything," he said. "To be honest I'm shocked but money has not got such a value to me. I think it is funny.
I don't know about you guys but I won't jump and say he's a retard; it sounds as if he only found the comics thrown away and used them without knowing about their actual values
Nonetheless it's pretty stupid to dismiss monetary value like that
Guys he didn't know they were valuable until after he did it, and he found these comics in a skip

5:50 for anyone vaguely interested
The artist sounds like a chill dude.
Every comic book collector died a little today.
I hope the writers of the big bang theory see this.
Who gives a fuck. The artist is not a douchebag and I agree with him. It's funny how you guys get genuinely upset about this. Talk about fitting into the stereotype.

Thanks, I was planning on posting the video, but didn't feel like finding the clip again.
