So I've been thinking about writing this thread for a few months now knowing that December would mark my 10 year anniversary at Facepunch, and it is strange to think of everything that has happened in the past decade. Thinking back where you were 10 years ago to now is a strange thing, and its made me think a lot about how I first found these forums and all the events that have gone on in my life. I know that it technically won't be the decade mark for me until the 9th, but I happen to find myself sitting in front of my computer with the motivation to write this so I thought now would be as good a time as any. To those reading this I am certainly no better than a ghost to these forums, virtually no posts (although I think a great deal had been archived at this point, not sure if that affects anything), and not much of a presence here. But putting that aside, I have frequented these forums for quite a while now silently reading all the happenings and going-ons around here and all the exciting stuff all the members post. I've never been much of an opinionated or outspoken person, so I never felt a need to comment much or make many contributions to the community, but that hasn't stopped this from being some what of a hallmark in my life. And I'm sure anyone who has been around here for as long as I have, all the 05ers and earlier have hopefully thought about this at some point and how Facepunch has impacted your life. I don't quite remember the exact details, but 10 years ago as I kid I remember being an avid Gmod fan as most people on here probably are. I think it was around version 8 (which later turned into version 9 and than it was sold for $10 as just Gmod) that I had first stumbled upon these forums while at a local gaming cafe in Texas. I didn't have a computer of my own at the time nor did we have a family computer surprisingly, so I spent as much time and money as I could playing Steam games at this cafe. I was 14 at the time and had essentially no other hobbies to think of growing up in the rural country side, so my entire life at that point revolved around Gmod, these forums, and gaming in general. Fast forward 10 years, still here more-or-less. In this entire span I had gone through middle-school, high-school, working my first job at a crappy fast food chain, off to university in a large city, then off to graduate school, then landing a professional job, and finally here now as a working adult. In this entire span thinking that Facepunch had been apart of my life is a surreal feeling. I don't think I have ever belonged to any specific community for as long as I have to here (if you can really call my relentless forum creeping 'belonging'). But what I'm really trying to get at is to say THANK YOU! Thank you to everyone who's stuck around as long as I have, to all the new ones and old ones alike, to Garry (it should go without saying). Thank you all! Who knows, maybe in another decade I'll be writing a 20 year post. Just to keep the conversation going, if there are any other 5 year or 10+ year members reading this I encourage you to post some perspective. I'd like to hear other people's thoughts on how things have been going in your lives since first joining this forum. EDIT Just realized its been 9 years...
but december 2006 was only 9 years ago, not 10 years ago http://www.timeanddate.com/date/durationresult.html?m1=12&d1=2&y1=2006&m2=12&d2=2&y2=2015 [editline]3rd December 2015[/editline] wow this is just EMBARRASSING isn't it
just assume I made the thread and wrote the OP and everything works out fine
just assume I made the thread and wrote the OP and everything works out fine
shut up old timer
shut up old timer
well I NEVER
I swear I was planning this out for months thinking it was 2005. I even looked at my join date before I posted this and I swore it said December 9th, 2005. And by some witchcraft it changed as soon as it was posted.
I've been here since 05 and I CAN'T LEAVE It's like an addiction
Why am I still here, I will never know.
in a few months it'll be the 10th anniversary of my first post on FP it was a thread in the wrong section with a title in all caps I got banned
such as strange feeling knowing i've been on this site for so long but it's all worth it and it's awesome knowing and talking to you guys
Don't worry OP I'll come back to this thread next year and pretend I haven't seen it before
I remember when being an 07er was lame and everyone hated me. oh wait. :v: Also somehow I managed to get this far without getting gold. Right before I hit the magic age, it was changed to be longer, and then right before I got to that, it was removed/paid or whatever.

Unless it changes again. I feel like I read bans make it higher. 5 years and 2000 posts currently IIRC.

It's kinda interesting

Some of my peers are making big money out there in the world, getting married, having kids, helping people, building houses, fulfilling their dreams... ...and I'm still on Facepunch.
Some of my peers are making big money out there in the world, getting married, having kids, helping people, building houses, fulfilling their dreams... ...and I'm still on Facepunch.
Good thing they aren't mutually exclusive to eachother. Unless your swimming in a sea of piss like Mikfoz was. I agree with everything you said OP and I honestly couldn't of said it better myself. It's weird and surreal to realize just how much I've changed on this place. You've become my internet home somehow, FP. Even with some of the crazies that come and go on here, it always stays the same in the end. I still remember when ratings were added and that whole shitstorm. Also the shitstorms for every single forum layout change
I wish I had the easy life I had when I started here instead of getting a mortgage, having a kid and paying nuff bills
Some of my peers are making big money out there in the world, getting married, having kids, helping people, building houses, fulfilling their dreams... ...and I'm still on Facepunch.
Yeah. I made this account a decade ago when I was 9 years old lmao
Yeah. I made this account a decade ago when I was 9 years old lmao
you made me realize I was 13 when I did lol
Man the past 10 years really went fast. I miss the smartness system, but I understand why it had to go. Couldn't help but snigger at people getting sniped by the auto-ban.
This thread had better still be here in a year, I've bookmarked it to remind me to check it out in 365 days' time.

Always used to love hopping in a thread where someone was being Join Date Elitist seriously and just going "Ahem...scrub." I've been on facepunch for about 1/3 of my life, it's pretty much been the biggest and longest lasting constant in my life. Which is weird cause normally I hop about forums eveyr couple of years, but I've always come back to Facepunch.
I've been on this forum for 10 damn years and all I got was this lousy gold membership.

I was waiting until finally it would be cool to be from 07 but it was never cool
Already 10 years? Cheers to another 10....
I wish I had the easy life I had when I started here instead of getting a mortgage, having a kid and paying nuff bills
Yeah you also got screwed over by MUFC when here so facepunch has done you wrong
What is this? A thread for young people?
