dayz when it was still an arma mod in 2012 with fp was the most fun ive ever had playing a video game.
What will come out first, DayZ or Half-Life 3?
there are a handful of vanilla servers though

getting a fp server up and running again would be a dream come true. if we could find people to play that is.
I'll start playing it again when the beta comes out. I know I'll probably be disappointed but there's almost no other game that has captivated me like DayZ. I still want it to be good (or at least copied really well by someone more competent).

Time to restart a USPVT server again?

idk who'd host it though since james/chernarus/whatever his name is gone. he was a bit of a dick but he did run a pretty good server.
i'd certainly be willing to donate to whoever starts one though
God I'm not even slightly surprised that DayZ is still a joke after all this time
and the worst part about this is that the only people that suffer because of that are the people that actually care about the game. The devs don't, clearly.
It's the ultimate example of why steams early access program needs a massive overhaul.
Shouldn't be hard considering the FP Community servers are already sponsored by Vultr so they're already free. It's effort and actually getting it running without any crashes is the big problem.
the mod got updated quite a bit after it died down in popularity here iirc. i don't think its as much of a buggy mess as it was in the good old days

If someone is serious about hosting the server, I have access to several racks and can host it on a gigabit connection. I just need help with the coding. If anyone reading this is serious about it, PM me.
i wish i could help but i don't know shit about coding :/
The funny thing about them earning all that money is they are going to lose a good chunk of it to people refunding the game once it comes out of Early Access.

You can do that? I really want to do that.

Provided it doesn't "glitch out" again like it did with Ark, oh how glorious this shall be.
If we host a Namalsk sever I would love everyone forever.
might be a good idea considering how many people it takes to fill up chernarus

Snow maps are the best this time of year
I love dayz and I love namalsk and I wanted to play some earlier this week but there are no active servers :(
He's not wrong, a lot of people just wanted the mod without the bugs, better controls, improved zombies that actually meant there was a proper PVE element rather than the zombie survival part of the game barely registering.
Part of standalone that gets me the most is the total lack of ambience, the atmosphere of the mod is somehow totally absent, it's graphical upgrades have made it feel much softer and less threatening. In contrast the ArmA II mod had a washed-out graphical quality that made it feel unforgiving, cold, and depressing, plus the ambient music was perfect.
I still feel there is an element of rose-tintedness looking back though, you'll never recapture that feeling when you fired up DayZ and explored Chernarus for the first time, standalone doesn't captivate players in the same way because we've experienced it all before, not just in the mod but survival games in general have become ubiquitous. Going back and watching people playing for the first time during in the June period of 2012 when the mod took off is incredibly entertaining, they're crawling about with a Makarov shitting themselves trying not to attract any attention, it's going to be very hard for the devs to rekindle that feeling, a new map might help but as people have become desensitised to the survival genre it'll never be like the 'good old day...z'.
The DayZ mod gave me and my friends some of the best multiplayer gameplay we've ever had. 7 or 8 nerdes all in the same house yelling at eachother while romping around Chernarus and Namalsk.

Good times. I think I was in the gray car with McSlaughter? Not sure.

Agreed, if that's possible I'm totally going to refund Space Engineers if it ever leaves Early Access.

Jokes on you, it'll happen practically never
I think that there is hope yet for DayZ SA.
But only if 0.63 delivers.
When you realize mod makers can make better content in the space of a few weeks - months than a big team of 80 developers can in 4 years, shame DayZ has come to this, I miss the good old days of DayZ, 2012, Epoch etc.
Looking back, i regret paying for this early access the never came to be completed...
well Dean did abandon his ION thingy and is working on this instead: http://store.steampowered.com/app/544550/Stationeers/
whether he doesn't abandon that too is another question

It's his second attempt on making a spiritual successor to SS13 and it seems that anything related to SS13 is cursed. Anyway don't have many hopes for this project either.
Did anyone else use to play MTA: DayZ? I liked that even more than the original. I remember there being 3 unwritten factions on most servers: The Russians, The Brazilians and then there's everyone else.
