Scientists have discovered the unique internal structure of the serrated teeth belonging to carnivorous dinosaurs like T. rex and Allosaurus.
This structure allowed them to rip through flesh and bones of larger animals, surviving as top predators for around 165 million years.
The research, published in Scientific Reports, used microscopes to examine and analyse tooth slices.
It revealed a crucial layered arrangement of tissue inside the teeth.
Like a steak knife, dinosaur teeth have serrated edges designed to slice through meat.
Teeth are made of tough tissue called dentine, surrounded by an outer coating of enamel.
Microscopic adaptation
The researchers discovered a special arrangement of layers of dentine at the base of each serration in the tooth.
"This helped to enlarge the serration on the inside the tooth," said Kirstin Brink, a post-doctoral researcher at the University of Toronto Mississauga.
"It also helped to strengthen it and prevented it from wearing away too quickly while the animal was eating."
Evolution is one hell of an engineer
When I was a child, the idea of dinosaurs being feathered wasn't one that had really taken hold in the scientific community. Gotta say, it's weird seeing drawings of them with down-covered bodies now. I thought the scaled ones were cooler.

On topic, I thought it was already known for quite a while that they had serrated teeth.
It's much more fun to group hug with friends and have a good time, and carnivores are meanies anyway!

Dinosaurs are so much cooler with feathers. Of course that's probably because I've never been scared by a reptile IRL but birds have attacked me plenty

somehow the idea of a massive flamboyant heavily muscled bird seems a lot more terrifying than a huge reptile
Green white and brown feathers?

Now you know.

But apparently they're now ducks lol evolution is a bitch

In one life you have serrated teeth, in the next you have an exploding corkscrew penis.
Seems like a pretty fair trade to me.

Alright. Here's the thing.
When they did the """genomic""" testing for Tyrannosaurus, which lead to "His closest relative is a chicken!!!!"
It was actually because ONLY A CHICKEN WAS USED
[editline]30th July 2015[/editline]
Like, no other bird dna was present. just chicken.

From murder machines to necrophiliac rape monsters.
I don't know if that's an upgrade.
I first read the headline as "Brushing Teeth" :v:

Imagine if they were mechanical murderous necrophiliac rape monsters...

You dont have to, silly.
They're called Dolphins.

As far as we know.
