I always love listening to Bunny Hop's analysis on stuff, he's so thorough about it I really do hope we see a resurgence in real survival horror again
best part of this video is the stupid basement theme at the start i want to meet whoever composed that masterpiece

The game looks so great at 60fps. I've watched so many videos that talk about classic game design and they fawn over how good it is. And their examples are "because it is" And it bugs me to no end. Half way through this video I was worried he was going to pull that. "This game is so brilliant. So well crafted. etc etc." At which point I rolled my eyes just because it feels like he's putting purpose and meaning on things that might not have been specifically chosen or crafted. However, it changed when he actually gave examples of how the game controls and directs your playstyle. Examples of choices that the designers forced onto players as to how they play and also forcing players to make tough choices like he mentioned literally just getting hit because if you shot it, you'd waste ammo and it would also come back as a tougher enemy. Stuff like that which is missing from a lot of these retrospective videos. He actually backs up his points in this video, probably one of his best in recent memory. Especially mentioning how the changed in the remake affect how a player would progress through the game compared to older versions. I need to eventually play an RE game. Never have, same for Silent Hill. This and his video on Rainbow Six were ones I really enjoyed.
You'd be doing yourself a gaming justice by playing some or all of the resident evil games, though personally, I'd forgo Code Veronica 2 as its a rail shooter, Gaiden because it's more of a fighter then SH and OP Raccoon City because of the non-canon equivalence of jumping off a bridge into a pit of sharks that shoot killer bees from their eyes. The series from 2 up to CV IMO was very well done story wise and the puzzles are so many it keeps you on your toes if you haven't played in some time. 2 accomplished this by have 4 different stories on 2 disks by way of Leon's story as main and Claire's as the B scenario and vice versa on Claire's disk. 3 did a wonderful job by adding the split decision points that would sometimes drastically change what it was you had to do to get where you needed to go change how puzzles were solved or in what order and it did it so much so it would influence the ending of the game. The added mercenary's mode made it interesting, 2 had it as well but not till the dualshock version was released as didn't carry over rewards to the main game like 3 did. Survivor was the first in the series to use PlayStation's light gun perf as the controller and the only one in memory that had Hunters AND lickers in the same game. It too, had a multiple ending system and if I recall right, about 5. The only canon to Survivor was the connection to Ark Thompson was Leon as they seemed to be friends. Ark was also a cop, so maybe they went to the same school or something, it's never been explained. Code Veronica in my mind was the absolute height in the series, retaining the classic controls the added 180 QT and ink ribbons. The one thing that made it the game that should have guided the series was the camera system, once used and never again. At the time it the only other fully non-prerendered resident evil and was praised for it. As far as story goes, I believe it was one of the very best as it really helped to flesh out Chris Claire and Wesker far more then any of the other games at the time and even though Wesker was the "bad guy in the dark behind the monitor" most of the time the game managed to solidify him as one of the most evil and hard to kill baddies of all time. The nearly immortal "Cool Guy". The worst made resident evil IMO is probably 0, as you have to control two characters at the SAME TIME for the majority of the game making it excessively difficult. I've never even been able to complete the game because I get to frustrated with it, which is my own fault. I could keep going, but this wall is tall enough.

Merc. Mode was fucking awesome, added lot of high octane action and allowed you to unlock weapons, infinite ammo, etc.

You can certainly play it although it's a fair bit harder with the dualshock controller then the lightgun. Mostly due to the speed of the reticule, I haven't had the game for years but I think there was an option to increase or reduce the reticule speed in the options. The demo, which came with the game, convinced me to buy it. And the Dino Crisis game I bought had a demo of RE:3 come with it. :v: I really must get it again, just the same as the first time I got it, demo and all.
