Whilst I don't use the UDK or anything, anything which can make Indie games better is always welcome.
UDK just fucking rocks.
All hail Epic Games.
UDK and Crysis engine for free holy shit this rocks
UDK and Crysis engine for free holy shit this rocks
i hope i get to see cool indie games
This looks like it'd be great for a futuristic RPG. Quick, someone make it.
Ooooo, Sweet. I best get busy learning how to use the UDK.
I'm so used to building with brushes in hammer. It's hell trying to learn this :sigh:

You can make brushes without the editor?
What is Scaleform? never heard of them
What is Scaleform? never heard of them
from what I understand they use Flash to make good looking HUDs and GIs sounds nifty [editline]08:25PM[/editline]
I'm so used to building with brushes in hammer. It's hell trying to learn this :sigh:
why? you can use "brushes", except they give you the choice to use subtractive or additive mapping which is really, really convenient depending on the type of map you're trying to make
I'm so used to building with brushes in hammer. It's hell trying to learn this :sigh:
I know, right. I'm doing a game in a different engine, but I still do mock-ups in Hammer, just because it's faster for me. Takes forever to get used to.
I'll wait for the Crysis engine to come out, UDK is just so confusing. Did they even include the cascade and animation editors with the download?
tbh Valve is falling behind and really needs to jump forward with source engine again.
tbh Valve is falling behind and really needs to jump forward with source engine again.
This. Back in 2004, they were at the top of the market with HL2's physics. Valve needs that position back again.
That looks like the Dead Space inventory for some reason. Getting this engine later this year with my new computer :)

When you start cracking open some of Epic's own levels, you begin to see the creative ways they use models, and the sheer number of models they use.
Yeah they use a static meshes for just about everything. well the only thing that's a brush is the room itself (walls ceiling and whatnot)and that grate platform everything else is a static mesh, even the support columns.
Is it dependent on having Flash installed on your computer, or does it allow users to export Flash components into a proprietary format? If it's the former, then it's not really something I'd like to use, especially from the perspective of someone who writes his programs certain ways to ensure cross-platform usability (I.E., no Flash on Linux. The UDK can port to PS3, Xbox, so if it's the former, I wouldn't use it even with the UDK.) . If it's the latter, then it's an amazing development tool.
I believe it's the latter.
That's sweet as hell.. I wonder how difficult it is to write something like that? I know America's Army 3 uses Flash for it's menus, but it's literally Flash being rendered and bound to a texture-- It's dependent on having Flash installed.
You do know it's also for licensees right, I doubt anyone would use this technology if it didn't work cross platform. ME2 uses this an it's on the 360. This is also used in Crysis 2, which will be on the PS3 and Xbox 360.

Seriously, when I played it, the game was practically unplayable because of all the bugs.
