It's a bit lame how short the travel path on them is, but I guess a mechanism with longer action would have to be hella complicated and it would be hard to make it robust enough.

Unfortunately, Predators have access to extremely light and extremely strong metals not native to earth.
Isn't it the AvP canon that predators have just stolen all of their tech from space jockeys and have no proper understanding of anything they're using ?

I don't believe so, but to be honest I haven't gotten into predators much past the cinematic universe and the video games, and I can't find anything that says where their tech comes from one way or the other.
