A few weeks ago, several steps were revealed in the process of unlocking a special Quality Assurance (QA) mode on your PS3 console. The mode unlocks a special mode, which is typically only meant for official Sony testers. Unfortunately, the steps revealed were only part of the process. Developers were scrambling to figure out the button combo that unlocked the special QA mode. In addition, developers still needed to figure out what to change in the QA dummy token. These two mysteries prevented developers from unlocking the mode. Today however, the Quality Assurance mystery comes to an end. An anonymous and reputable source exclusively revealed to us the two remaining steps. The secret button combination that unlocks the hidden QA mode was revealed to us as being L1+L2+L3+R1+R2+dpad down.
QA Flagged PS3's will be a complete disaster for Sony.
So what, pushing some random ass buttons on a controller magically opens a special mode?

It requires more than just pressing random buttons if you read the article. With the special mode you basically can do whatever you want with your PS3, including CFW, pirated games, and other operating systems.
So now people can stop bitching about Sony regulating their own console?
You can only do this with version "3.55 OFW," whatever the hell that means. That article is terrible.
This is nice and all, but I have a PC. I can already do all of these things if I really want.

3.55 Official Firmware, the current version is 3.6.1. You would had to kept your PS3 from updating and stayed on 3.55 Custom Firmware up to this point and then install 3.55 Official Firmware to do this.

That's a little bit over the top
That's a little bit over the top
You could use a flasher to downgrade your PS3 from the current version down to a lower version then do this or install linux.
It probably changes with each firmware version. Kind of like how RSA tokens always change their code every sixty seconds.
Oh, cool. I would like to use my PS3 as a linux machine but I would probably end up bricking it.
So now people can stop bitching about Sony regulating their own console?
I think you mean the customer's console.
It's Sony's console when it's in their factory.
It's the store's console when money has exchanged hands and they buy it from Sony.
It's the customer's console when money has exchanged hands and they buy it from the store.
Okay so what's the point of this? Anyone on 3.55OFW have already hacked their systems so this seems pretty redundant. And if there is a new code for other OFWs like the current one then that's a different story.

It allows you to do way more than just CFW. You can update to 3.6.1 while retaining the QA flag, enabling for 3.6.1 access with ability to do anything.

Well I hope they find a code for the current FW then. I've been updating constantly especially lately for all that security crap.
I'm pretty sure that was a cheat in GTA: Vice City, or at least the beginning of one.

But is the OS yours? Nope, it isn't.
But is the OS yours? Nope, it isn't.
Yep. Paid for it.
Yep. Paid for it.
You paid in order to use it, not in order to own it.
Yep. Paid for it.
You paid for the license to use it, you don't own the software.
Which is pretty fucked up.
But you're free to install your own OS.
[editline]22nd June 2011[/editline]
Also this doesn't exactly allow everything to do done.
To install a package, AFAIK, it has to be signed by Sony and it has to be the first package at the root of the USB stick. Pretty restrictive but hey, maybe they'll be able to dump 3.6.1 OFW with this.
No I am Sony's CEO. I own it.
So does this mean there is a possibility to play online at all if you are on CFW 3.55?
Just give us the possibility to play 3.60+ games. I had almost given up.
3.55 Official Firmware, the current version is 3.6.1. You would had to kept your PS3 from updating and stayed on 3.55 Custom Firmware up to this point and then install 3.55 Official Firmware to do this.
To get on the PSN you have to be 3.6.1
You had to update as soon as PSN came back on.
Only way to get free stuff.

Not without a PSN authorization workaround like FuckPSN being used.
Oh boy, here we go again! Sony really need to watch what they leave lying around their OS, developer mode consoles were a major security breach on the PSN, and this could cause that again as long as someone is dumb enough to install a DevOS firmware.
So now people can stop bitching about Sony regulating their own console?
Can J.K. Rowling sue me for 'modifying' Harry Potter when I underlined some passages? No. So why should Sony have full control of something they sold. It's not renting consoles out to people and it doesn't own the console sitting in a person's house, they own the copyright and firmware, but the customer should be allowed to modify their property as they wish.

And yet a large portion of people who do this ruin the experience of other gamers using hacks and scripts. They're not only looking for their own security but their customer's satisfaction with online content.

Probably should implement decent anticheat, instead of being bitchy about what people do with their console.
But hey, that's common sense, god forbid if they actually used that.

I'm curious what you say about Microsoft bricking modded 360s :v:
And Oh cool, that means we'd have to start paying for online access.

Kina hard to implement a anti-cheat on a Operating system that doesn't follow the same rules and does not work the same way as a PC OS. The developer expects every single client to act the same, it's the benefit of console development. When people start running cheats in games, it's either development stuff (CoD cheats are basically all this) or just flat out modifying the game (the developer just didn't secure their code properly).
