CNN)A man suspected of killing two people during a "street race" has turned himself in to Los Angeles Police.Henry Gevorgyan, 21, surrendered to authorities Saturday night in connection with the fatal hit-and-run that left two onlookers dead. The crash happened Thursday in the San Fernando Valley neighborhood of Chatsworth. Gevorgyan was driving a gray Ford Mustang and was allegedly racing another vehicle "and struck several pedestrian spectators," police said. Authorities said he fled the scene of the accident along with the driver of the other car. One man died at the scene, another died at a local hospital from his injuries. A third pedestrian is hospitalized in stable condition.
http://www.cnn.com/2015/03/01/us/california-street-racing-deaths/
Even though it was terrible of what he did, respect for him for turning himself in.
There's a reason street racing is illegal [editline]1st March 2015[/editline] Good to hear he turned himself in, though
If they could put all that time and money into their ride, they should be able to go to the track without a problem. Spectators are at fault too, like why would you stand so close with nothing to guard you...
Shouldn't it be manslaughter, not murder? Sure what he was doing was incredibly stupid, but it's not as if he intended to kill anyone.
Whole thing could have been avoided if he wasn't a big retard.
Even though it was terrible of what he did, respect for him for turning himself in.
If that car can be traced to him, ie he owns it or borrowed it, then he has no real choice. Running away is smart, because now they can't prove intoxication was a factor. On the other hand, once you kill people it's kind of the least of your problems if you were drunk or not at the time. So no respect from me for this guy. Anyone can drive fast, lose control, and crash. Anyone can turn themselves in when they know they're getting arrested anyways. He did nothing special that I can see.
i expected more cubeman jokes
Wrong side of the country.
i expected more cubeman jokes
I expected it to actually be cubeman
Shouldn't it be manslaughter, not murder? It might be considered murder in this because he was breaking the law when it happened, and he fled the scene of the accident.
This mistake is quite common. When the revs are high, and you want to shift gears, then sometimes the driver doesn't allow the flywheel to match the speed of the engine, causing this burst of power in the rear wheels on contact. If you don't expect it or take it into consideration, then you spin out. This guy wasn't lucky because there were people in the way. It can be avoided with tires that get more grip like you see the ones on drag racing cars(slick tires) or by just being more responsible on your shifts. [sp]inb4 the "best way to avoid accidents is not to street race" argument[/sp] (User was banned for this post ("Meme reply / spoiler misuse" - Craptasket))

What you're saying is you dump the clutch and you do a burnout, so you spin out.

They were or are going to charge him for murder since he ran.

Real sports cars are AWD for a reason.... (sick of idiots thinking RWD cars are topshit) This dumbass deserves a murder charge, firstly losing control and keeping it at WOT then running away, keep this idiot locked up. [editline]2nd March 2015[/editline]
"This person is being retarded and is endangering other people. If he wants to race maybe he should find a track somewhere?!"
Completely agree, but it seems by that video, street racing is a common thing? doesn't take much to speculate that there may be no track around?
"This person is being retarded and is endangering other people. If he wants to race maybe he should find a track somewhere?!"
I'm more referring to saying they're a reckless irresponsible child rather than the actual act of street racing, should've clarified.
Even though it was terrible of what he did, respect for him for turning himself in.
No respect here. He still fled the scene and didn't turn himself in for a few days.
I'm more referring to saying they're a reckless irresponsible child rather than the actual act of street racing, should've clarified.
Children often make irrational, dumb and sometimes reckless decisions. Calling him an irresponsible child seems to fit with his actions - racing on the street takes a very special combination of overestimating your own abilities and and having no regard for other people's safety.
ITT people who think they know shit about cars and trying to show off. Firstly, like another guy said, it's not the fly wheel its the speed of the engine and the speed of the wheels. Secondly, I think he needs to be more responsible not with his shifting (is being responsible with shifting even a thing?) but maybe go to the fucking drag strip. There's supposed to be events to "beat the heat" at many drag strips where you can race the local PD specifically to stop this kind of stuff in the US from what i've heard.
I remember seeing a horrible dashcam video where another car hit a pedestrian at slow speed (definitely not lethal), but then decided to hit-and-run, drove over the person and dragged their corpse several feet stuck under the car. I never found the same video again.
I'm more referring to saying they're a reckless irresponsible child rather than the actual act of street racing, should've clarified.
street racing IS reckless, irresponsible and childish
"This person's hobby varies from my tastes and as such I am placing myself above them because I am better than they"
None of my hobbies kill people, so yeah, I kinda am better.
None of my hobbies kill people, so yeah, I kinda am better.
To be honest, the spectators somewhat brought it on themselves; fools wouldn't drag race on the street if it didn't draw a crowd like that.

Isn't drag racing supposed to be in a straight line? How do you fuck that up? [editline]2nd March 2015[/editline]
Real sports cars are AWD for a reason....
None of my hobbies kill people, so yeah, I kinda am better.
and these hobbies include? I'm nearly positive someone has died, been injured, or been at risk as a result of something you consider a hobby
Isn't drag racing supposed to be in a straight line?
