One who only shakes (not stirs) his buttermilk? You had better believe it. Please meet the cleaned up, chaste, well behaved James Bond - trending in India as #SanskariJamesBond - an ironic hashtag prompted by a censor board decision to "cut short" Daniel Craig's kissing scenes in the movie Spectre, which releases in India on Thursday. That's right. James Bond in his current avatar, simply kisses too much for the tastes of the Indian censor board, and so they have been reduced in length. Ashoke Pandit, a member of the censor board confirmed that the kissing scenes had been cut, but insisted it was a decision taken in his "personal capacity" by India's controversial censor board head Pahlaj Nihalani. "Yes, this decision [to cut kissing scenes] was taken by Pahlaj Nihalani. He does these kind of things. Other shots have also been cut along with the kissing scene. This seems like a joke. If you do this to a James Bond film, then it's shameful," he told BBC Hindi.
yeah, because nobody knows where to find an uncensored version of a film at all, you ass-backwards idiot. Grow up and let people make their own decisions as to what they're going to see or not see instead of playing to the puritan peanut gallery. Good on the other guy to at least understand that this decision was stupid.
Does this happen a lot to Hollywood films in India? Considering Hollywood loves kissing and sex.
It's a bit of a dice roll depending on the films. One thing I can tell you is that representing sex on screen in any way beyond the implying that it happened tends to set our censor board frothing at their mouths. Ditto for scenes deemed too suggestive, though that tends to, as I mentioned, vary with the film. They might find a beach scene with bikini girls too suggestive, or they might not. The song sequences tend to be the worse offenders as far as hypocrisy goes, particularly because all that sort of thing that sets off our censor board, tends to occur in prolific quantum in several of those, including foul language (by their standards), highly suggestive lyrics and gyrations, and the same for costumes. One of the more retarded decisions they've taken so far, not just for movies, but even TV shows, is censoring the word 'pork' or 'beef' every time it appears. Even in the subtitles. The only channels which escape this are the non-mainstream foreign channels, and it's only a matter of time before the censors get their grubby hands on those as well.

I know India isn't secular in the slightest, but it's not a theocracy, right?
Gotta love censor boards, they're basically the old generation telling the current one what they find acceptable. MPAA is just as bad, the martians dialogue was heavily censored from the book, and they had to justify every swear word, but need to shoot people or blow shit up, as long as you don't call it shit it's fine for kids
Just how influential is Hinduism in your society? I know India isn't secular in the slightest, but it's not a theocracy, right?
honestly things weren't so bad as early as two, three years ago, but ever since then the Hindu far-right has been growing steadily in influence both in government and everyday life. Actually, their influence has been increasing even in the last 6-8 years, though not as much as the previously mentioned timeframe. The country isn't a theocracy by any means, it's just that with the far-right hindu nationalists coming to power and trying to force their brand of religious fundamentalism on to people, including such brilliant fuck heads as the sadhu who said people who refused to do yoga should jump into the ocean, or the "gentleman" who said that ancient india had 'alien technology' during the time of the Mahabharata and that we possessed aircraft and nukes that rivaled what exists in modern times, and that everybody should be grateful that India pioneered such greatness before the westerners rediscovered this. He was a "historian" supported by the right wing morons who rule this country now, but he got laughed at by the more sensible foreign historians. We're currently experiencing a wave of intolerance for minority faiths, with christians being called traitors, muslims getting lynched for selling beef, and so forth, as well as attacks against hindu converts of either of these religions. This is a dark period for this country.
